A few questions sorry

Hello

I am new here and hate to start off with bothering you with questions but I am a little confused

I have an Amiga A600 to which I have added a CF drive with WHDLOAD

Really cant get anything to work from it. After a good search here I now know I need more ram etc.

So far I have ordered a 604 expansion card to have 2mb chip memory and understand I also need some fast ram

1. I can only seem to find PREMEC cards for sale and wanted to know whether they were compatable as I have seen a post here where a member could not get one to work.

2. I have the option of buying quite cheap a 16mb Premec card, I understand the hardware limitations means only the first 4mb will be recognised but will the card still work ?

3. I also understand I can use an ACA 68030/25 accelerator but from what I can gather they are no longer made.

Finally and I do apologise is it worth upgrading to workbench 3.1 ?

I know I will need a 3.1 kickstart rom but is it worth it over 2.05 ?

Hey wangerman, depending on how cheap the premec card is, it might be worth a try. Sram cards are usually pretty pricey though. Make certain it is Sram and pcmcia. There are Dram and flash cards which will not work as RAM in an amiga. There is also a simliar sized type of card which has staggered pins and is not compatible.

If you have waited this long for an amiga, I suggest you wait a little longer, there are some goodies coming soon for A600s. A new RAM only board will hopefully be available real soon and there are two possible new accelerators in the works also.

I am sure the card is an SRAM card as it does have battery back up will check pin layout though thanks can get it for about £60 but don't want to waste my money if it won't work

Would be interested in some form of accelerator card do you have any more info on this ?

If you can get an A630, then your laughing. It would also be ideal to have an extra 1MB chip. Then you will have an ultimate WHDLoad machine.

A630 has some cool features, like speed tweaks and the ability to load any kickstart into ram.

I doubt eBay or similar turns them up very often

Yes, the manufacturer of the ACA630 has been teasing us with details of a 'lite' version of the ACA630 featuring much of the goodness but less powerful and and a chunk cheaper. Release schedule unknown.

There are/have been efforts by other individuals. Search the forum for "furia" A small number of these were made and I think all the plans were made available for anyone adventurous enough to construct their own. Also check out the following threads.

I have a white A1700(amiga mod)http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php...016#post334016 it has a 2mb card in the PCMCIA slot,If you get one of them you can play most of the ECS games (I pay £25 for mine its the cheapest way)cos I can,so I have 2 chip and 2 fast some of the AGA games work but not all.
You could use Classic WB Lite,it gives you more ram and you can boot into a boot menu to use less ram,(I use it too)I use Tiny Launcher to boot games with.
