IDEfix97 and ACATune

Hi All,

Little question that's got me a bit puzzled.

Do I run ACATune or Idefix97 first in the Startup-sequence or does it not matter?

I've always had ACATune as the first line when using an ACA card as that's how it says to setup things in the manual however I use a 4 Way Buffered IDE in my A1200 and I need to run the IDEFix command to enable the second channel where I have another CF card installed (total I have 2x 8gb CF's one on primary 44way and one on secondary 40way header)

Right now I have the SS with IDEfix command first, then ACATune (with Maprom for my 3.1 Rom Image with OS3.9 BB2 updates)

It seems to work fine, but wanted to double check in case I should be doing it the other way round.

The next line by the way is Setpatch with NOROMUPDATE due to using Maprom.

Probably doesn't matter but my main CF is setup with PFS3 AIO (3 partitions 500mb/1.5gb/5.5gb) and my second CF is one big SFS partition, the whole card.

Check4gb Tool shows all OK. Fully expected as even without IDEfix97 I'm running scsi.device 43.43 from BB2.

Cheers!

Maprom should always be the first command because everything done before maprom will be removed and needs to be done again after the reset. Therefore it does not make much sense to do something before maprom.

I suppose that you run IDEfix just like that, not LoadIDE and not with RESET. Then it is ok to do this as second.

You may check acatune documentation about how it works. Maybe I remember wrong but it could be that acatune doesn`t do a reset for its maprom feature. However, in most or all cases maprom (from ROM or file) should be the first thing in S-S like Thomas wrote. Next, IDE/SCSI stuff if necessary. Depends on the system (used hardware, OS) and used software. For example if you have a custom ROM you may have everything in there.

One point I want to mention that could be accidental forget is if you start without S-S (hard and soft reset). Then it could be that the old scsi.device with its limits is used and if you just start something for testing or whatever (e.g. a game) and it saves anything (e.g. highscore)... boom. You know what could happen.

ACAtune does not reset if you map from physical ROM since the mapped version is identical. In any case, I think acatune should be first as long as you are not trying to load a ROM from a drive which requires IDEfix to be loaded.

Loading ROM file from drive doesn`t necessarily need to have IDEfix run first. At least if you just access the first 4GB area (if that is the limit). Read access should be safe also beyound the limit. It just throws errors and not destroy the data on drive. Although it is good to know your system to prevent problems.
