Most expensive, but utterly useless piece of Amiga hardware you bought

Kinda following on from the thread about extra ram, cpus etc.

List the piece of Amiga equipment you baught that you thought offered the least value for money, basically you baught something and no software took advantage of it or something.

My A570 - total lack of availible software, sure there was them PD CDs, but being a kid back then I found it hard to mail order CDs that were £20-£30 from the mags. So for me that drive was useless and it cost a god dam bomb too.

A 68881 co processor board
A colour Handy Scanner - bad unstable software and too damn RAM hungry

My A4000T which had a Cyberstorm MKII '060, Picasso IV, Toccata audio card, Ariadne NIC, 2 crappy 2 gig scsi drives and a dead scsi cd-rom

But it was a steal if you value the parts

I never knew they even sold 1 unit, I thought they it was all promises, hype and nothing else?
Around that time I went over to PCs, so I never really followed it. I had enough of being ripped off, and PCs were finally getting to a level of affordability to match some kind of use which for the same money I could not get out of my Amiga.

Why not turn it into a custom PC project? Get a nice cheap mATX PC motherboard inside and turn it into a retrobox or powerful emulated Amiga.

You got me!!!! I didn't see the T. I thought it was one of those standard A1500 boxes we've got over here in the UK.

A1500 + GVP Impact Series II

I wanted a HD8+ GVP Impact Series II for my A500 I talked my dad into driving us from Preston to Leeds (140 miles there and back) to First Computer Centre who was selling them cheap, collection only.

When we got there they were out of stock, despite me having rung and reserved one before we set off!

I was pissed, and didnt want to go home empty handed. The sales guy managed to pursuade me to buy an A1500 (which he would heavily discount) + Zorro II version of Impact Series II. He convinced me that if I could get XXX amount for my second hand A500 in MicroMart then the cost was about the same as an A500 HD8+ and I would be getting a big box Amiga for free!

I was young and impressionable and did the deal £600+ I remember. I never did get enough from the sale of my A500 and what should have been a sub £200 hard drive became a very expensive lemon.

I'm not sure that 1GB drives were common in 1993 mate! Not for that price anyway!

That's actually one heck of a deal back then...

DDNI when did you spend £200 on your A1200's 80MB HD?
