Maybe the wrong topic but .......
Ok ..Ok this a question about the fact that in the last 12 months my grandson has had to exchange hjs PS2 7 times due to it deciding to throw up errors over discs { official originals by the way ! } . Now I know his dad spends hours on it and he never uses it unsupervised is it by other users experience a poor machine or just that its not designed for marathon sessions ?

Does anybody smoke in the room with the PS2? Tobaco smoke is a real quick way of killing CD/DVD drives - espesially the clamshell types... other alternatives are dog/cat hairs.
SO that's no smoking and no pets! |

PS2 hates pets & smokers?
A games machine with alergies pershaps ! { instead of virus sesitivities } now surely some bright spark will start selling PS2 protection bubbles ......... or maybe it suffers from hayfever .... however I,ll check to see if my grandson has started letting pets into the games room .... I know his guinea pig Elvis is a big fan of " Miami vice "

It could be over-heating. Make sure the vents are not blocked. Original Playstations had an over-heating problem that would cause FMV to stutter. If you turned the Playstation on it's side, it cured the problem.

Hmmnnn !
Alergies and overheating ..... obviously there must be a design flaw ...or is it that the " built in obsolecence " factor is too high on the Ps2 machine maybe I should get my son in law to get him an X- Box instead ! cheers gents

From what I've heard, PS2s have problematic DVD drives. Not only do they rapidly give up the ghost and stop reading games, but they also give shoddy DVD playback - so shoddy, in fact, that a consortium of disgruntled users is planning to sue Sony for misleading advertising. Sony, they say, claimed the PS2 could play DVDs; the annoyed users claim it's no better at playing DVDs than a gramophone.
