Hope this works..!
Here's my first attempt at fixing an A500+ that had lots of battery corrosion. Gary has a new socket and the 74LS244N has some track fixes (corrosion ruined every pad on that side of the board). Repairs were done with prototyping wire.
I have done some tests and the results are not 100%, sadly, but I'm too tired to go back and fix it. Last edited by JonB; 05 April 2013 at 20:10. |

Man that looks like alot of work! But thumbs up for even attempting it, I hope you get it bug fixed
I did the same, but nowhere near as difficult with an old m-audio oxygen keyboard. The original owner had got frustrated with the usb port being loose and broke it, lifted tracks etc. I ended up putting in a new port/socket, soldering what was good and then bridging with cut up staples. It works perfectly now! |

Well, I have finished the repair and checked all connections to the 74LS244N. All is good.
However, I got the DREADED BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH. Is it likely that this is caused by other corrosion near the battery, or is it terminal? What I'm trying to ask is, given the position of the battery, is it likely a corroded track could kill it totally, or might I expect it to go some way through the boot process? The 244N is connected to another chip of similar size and DATA PATH is printed on the PCB. The same pair of chips appear right next to it. What are they actually for? |
