Accelerator Card question

Seen one of these for £75 with 8MB and just wondering if its a good enough card for playing WHDLoad games:

It's an RCA120 Rev B I believe.

That's a lot just for a 8mb memory expansion. Add another 40 and you could get a Blizzard 1230 with a lot more memory. You get those 8mb expansions pop up on Amibay now and again for around 50 quid.

It's not a great card, having 8MB of RAM will cause the PCMCIA slot to be unusable. Howver, 4MB should be more than sufficient for any whdload game, the larger ones (eg Monkey Island 2) may require preload to be turned off.

I personally wouldnt pay 75 pounds for it.

i paid £5 for mine

pcmcia isnt all that important if your playing games, pcmcia will work if the machine is kickstart 3.0

No use for the PCMCIA slot so no loss thankfully. I'm only ever going to be running games in WHDLoad via Classic Workbench Lite on it. I've been trawling eBay and trade boards for a couple of months but nothing this cheap has come up sadly Looks like this will do, thanks all!

I sold one last year for £30, 75 is too much in my opinion. It will do the job though.

Quite a few prices do seem to have ratcheted up a bit in the last year though.

Dont buy that. Keep an eye on individual computers / amigakit / vesalia for the ACA range of RAM and Accelerators. They are faster, similarly priced and come with guarantees.

That is a simple memory expansion limited to a maximum of 8mb and not PCMCIA friendly when used with any memory over 4mb. It is not an accelerator as it does not upgrade the CPU.

Price is too high in my opinion but it works for whdload. I sold one similar card (in mint condition) last month for 60 euros.

As written earlier by DDNI...
If you can afford it, I would rather save some money for a card like this:

Or wait a bit for new ACA1221 cards, cheapest one should be around 80€ and if need be you'll be able to upgrade with more options, memory or CPU speed.

Just a curiosity (it's not clear for me):
it will cause the PCMCIA slot/cards/CF adapter to be unusable at all, or will it cause the SRAM cards/memory only to be unusable?

It disables the PCMCIA port completely if it has over 4mb of RAM on it.

Wait... A1200 has KS3.0 by default.
Does the expansion disable PCMCIA completely (as ptyerman writes) or not (as you write)?

Also, the same is valid for A600?
(in case of internal 8MB RAM expansion such as kipper2k's)

Who cares is it does or doesn't. Try actually using the 8mb of ram and your pcmcia.. That will be super-stable with stuff writing over each others memory

in what way did you use it?

would you care to explain what you mean exactly? when you say both at the same time.
