I hadn't really been keeping up with resale prices so after seeing this thread I took a look, wow!
Stock, un-expanded A1200s going near the £300 mark, CD32s going for batshit money...

Lost for words.

CD32s were 90 quid in 2016. Since expansions became available they’re crazy money. But that’s to be expected. They used to be expensive to use for games. Now they’re a compact WHDLoad machine that is wife friendly in the living room

Yep, that's what I'm getting at. It's one thing paying a bit of a premium for a "no issues" machine, but I'm eyeing one one ebay that'd be over £200 with shipping (and it still has a day to go, so expect to tack another £50 on top when all's said and done) AND it has motherboard problems, so the second it arrived the first thing it'd need is both 9 pin ports replaced and a recapping! (Just quoted $100 for that)

For that money in 2013 I got an A1200, an 030 board with 64mb, and an Indivision Mk2!!!

In a thread featuring me pissing and moaning about how people are hoovering up Amigas and profiting off those in the market, I just realized who you were.

Previously I had thrown away my CPC664 and Sega SC3000, both of which are now rare and collectable.
And here we have the reason why Amiga hardware is so expensive nowadays.

You mark my words.
While I do get what you mean, keep in mind that you can still get a NES quite cheaply. It's a similarly common system which served to define a generation, just like the PSX.

Yeah, the price went crazy over the space of about 6 months or so, I picked up a NOS replacement for £40 and a pretty clean used one for £30, next moment they were all over £100 (This was about two years ago)

Having said that, there's one on ebay at the moment for £270+£30p&p

Well to make up for my sins I am now buying broken vintage computers and restoring them. My last purchase was an A500 motherboard with bad RAM, which I got off Trademe (NZ auction site) for $15.

In the 1990s I repaired a lot of Amigas for my customers. Most of the stuff I still had was only being kept for spare parts, so to me it was just 20 year old junk that wasn't worth getting going again. But now I am actually enjoying breathing life back into old machines, and with all the modern electronics and 'remanufactured' chips you can get from China it's much cheaper and easier to do than it was back then!

I recently bought an A1200 motherboard as spare for my main machine, but am now thinking about making it into a complete computer. I intend to make my own custom case (styled like an A1000) and use the A2000 keyboard I have or a PS/2 keyboard with a converter. But it can still run many games just as a bare motherboard with floppy drive and joystick attached.
