My A1200D =)

I recently picked up an A1200 from Peter off these board (thanks Peter)

I didn't think I would have a use for a Desktop A1200 after pimping out my Tower but these desktop A1200's are pretty close to my heart and I couldn't resist when Peters came up being that he is so close by making collection/delivery possible.

With my Tower getting the 060 treatment I have my Blizzard 1230 going spare + SCSI so I thought they would be well placed in the A1200D.

And the damn tower just wont take the FastATA so that too along with my spare DCE Flicker/Scan Magic (if it will fit) are being donated to the A1200D making it a pretty nice little system.

I've only got 3.0 Roms in there but its working fine so, if it ain't broke and all that... The Bliz and FastATA are in and working, the SCSI kit is connected to the SCSI port driving my external CDRW. I've got 64mb on the Bliz and 64mb on the SCSI giving me a whopping 128mb

I've installed a 4gb CF card setup with SFS Classic Workbench ADV SP and 3.09gb of WHDLoad'ness

Here is some Pr0n for you guys =) (More to come if I can fit the DCE in there)

Nice SpeedZ

You just can't help yourself can you?

Pimping out your Amiga hardware making us all drool.

I'm just so happy you give the ClassicWB packs a good outing on such awesome Amiga's!

Did you sell your A600? You just can't decide which awesome machine to keep!

Yeah sorry lol, I love to fiddle with these things it keeps me busy at the weekends

I sold the Apollo 630 but I still have my A600, its just waiting for Zetr0's A608 and I think that will be perfect - I found that the 030 not to full benefit in an A600 although it was an awesome machine it stepped away from what I wanted from the A600 which was my 1.3 rom switch for floppy's and extra Ram for WHDLoad.

Anyway, glad I can be of service - this A1200 by the way is running your awesome CWB ADV SP

Steve.

Please keep on pimpin' Steve - I love shots of Amiga hardware and retro setups. Just reminded me actually that gameroom thread has gone missing. Enjoyed reading that, so someone should bump it up.

I would have killed to have Amiga hardware like that back in the day. I see your point about the A600 when you have those other machines. It's a great hobby to have. These days I tend to concentrate on using cheap PC's for retrogaming. I enjoy a good buy and sell on ebay. Well they have to be good for something - PC's that is.

I have a SFF purely for console emulation, another for older PC games, a third SFF for Computer/Arcade emulation and torrents, one for general surfing and work, one for modern PC gaming, er, one for media on the downstairs TV. Also a PS3 and modded X-Box. Those tend to keep me pretty busy too as a hobby!

No Macs; no Linux (although I know how to use it); no retro hardware apart from my A1200. I'd love to get into that side of things too, but there is only so much time for my hobbies so I have to draw the line somewhere to fit in other stuff.

Thats a great post, sadly I don't have a Game Room though

But ck1200 has just dont up his loft as a game room, he should post

My A1200T and A1200D live in the lounge and my A4000 and A600 live in the spare room.

I'm just enjoying being back into the Amiga's, its a breath of fresh air to the PS3/XBox/PC and picking up old games like Banshee, I spent ages playing that earlier, you appreciate how they got pretty much everything they could out of the hardware available

Back to the A1200, wow, the FastATA is awesome, shame it dosen't work on the Tower. I've attached a little vid of Doom loading and I've never seen it load so fast!

[ Show youtube player ] Enjoy!

Yeah sure is my friend (+NTSC screenmode for a little boost)

Oh and I think maybe that its set to low details, but as you probably know it makes almost no difference to the visuals!

Here's a better Vid =)

Yeah I think my Bliz1230 is on steroids

I put in the Apollo 1240 to compare, which should be a hell of a lot faster and to be honest it just wasn't that much quicker. Doom ran a little smoother but workbench, etc pretty much the same so in the real world I think the Bliz 1230 makes the perfect desktop miggy setup, especially with the SCSI kit

Tested out my Blizzard 1260 in my A1200D today and OMG via the FastATA 6.5mb/sec

This is via 4gb Kingston CF!

Quick question if anyone is reading... I couldn't fit a Simm in the Blizzard 1260 so I just Ran a Simm in the SCSI kit, is there are problem doing this? Does there need to be even a small Simm on the Blizzard its self?

Was running just fine, tried some stuff like Quake & no problems.

The 1260 will be promoted to my Desktop A1200 soon as I'll have a PPC

I think you've just answered that question yourself.

Besides, there aren't too many of us with experience of the Blizzard 1260 in any configuration who can give you a better answer.

And when you get the PPC up and running, you'll be even more on your own.

Thanks i think... LOL I just wondered if I was loosing any functionaility by not having a Simm on the Blizzard, I'll probably just stick a 128mb Simm on the SCSI kit and be done with it since thats plenty for 99.99999999% of tasks I can think of.

I can't even begin to imagine how cool the PPC is going to be

Not yet, but I will have soon! I found a Bliz 060+ PPC (240mhz) + SCSI + 2x128mb 60NS Simms + Original Box/Disks/SCSI Cable for Tower for what I feel is a very reasonable price (considering all thats included.)

So to fund it I've found buyers for my Bliz 1230+ SCSI Kit and the car repairs wait till next month

The PPC will go in the Tower, the 1260 will live in this Desktop A1200.

I also found a nice SCSI-IDE converter so I'm going to run that off the PPC in the Tower

Then I think I'll own every Amiga I could possibly ever need and can go back to spending money on grown up stuff like fixing cars

Yeah I was impressed also, I almost fell off my chair.

What revision A1200 board are you using, and what are you using for a power brick?

Hi!

This motherboard is rev. 1D4 and I'm using this ATX PSU to power it all

Some people report timing problems with this revision of board but it seems to be 'luck of the draw' as both my 1D4 boards are ok with 040's and 060's
