I might require some more technical help here. I noticed some pictures in the game include text as well, and much of that is naturally in German. Now to navigate all these .iff, .pic and .anm files to see what lies within...

If he's currently on Irada it may be good to say:

"Irada is strange, the people here will give information to anyone, but let me assure you, this planet is a pretty rough place."

Send a message via ICQ to NewDeli
It does sounds weird to easily obtain information in a supposedly rough place, doesn't it ?

Good news everyone! I managed to figure out how to edit the image files in the game. Therefore you get these comparison shots.

Now that I have figured out this PowerPacker 2.0 thing which was used to compress the pictures, I also found out the same thing was used on the original text. This helps things greatly as I no longer have to load up the actual game with German files to check the original writing. Well, except for the dialogue in some cases since lines by the party and NPCs are in separate files.

Here's a few more I need help with. I think these mainly have German figures of speech which can't really be translated directly and be expected to make sense.

Quote:
Wollt iht mich auf den arm nehmen, oder was?

Are you going to take me by the arm, or what?
The next one is an answer to asking a character what is wrong.
Quote:
Only the old age... And my wife, she's in sanatorium at the moment, she's very sick...

Nur das alter... und... meine frau - sie ist schwerkrank und derzeit wider auf kur.
Quote:
Sieh mal an, wollt ihr mir das wirklich andrehen?

Look here, are you trying to rip me off?
edit: Here's another one.
Quote:
Können sie uns damit vertraut machen.

Would you take us into your confidence?

Only a rushed translation.

I should've mentioned that the context for that third sentence is odd. You get it when trying to sell illegal goods to a merchant, and you have to answer affirmatively to proceed with the selling.

looking at the context here, its more about asking for details. so i would suggest:
"What about details?" or "Can you give details?" or the like.

Yep, you're right. I would translate it with like this:

Quote:
Kennst du Zahlen?
-Do you know data?

Hmm, would say that 'details' fits a bit better than 'data' here

Mmh "details" is no translation/word for "Zahlen", but data is. Of course his hit's translation catches the same meaning.

I think a native speaker is needed here, because both sentences have the same meaning, it's just which one sounds 'better'

Zahlen is German for some thing to do with counting, if I recall correctly; I do speak some German.

"Kennst du zahlen" might translate as "Can you count?" Does this make more sense in the context?

It could also translate as "What's the payment?"

Nope not counting, "data" like shop informations, i.e. the prices for weapons.

Like Retro said it means data/details/informations in this context. Could refer to the strength of the enemy or a prize/bounty. Would be nice to know the line before that one (I know I sound like a broken record )
