Expanded CDTV pics

Some expanded CDTV pictures..

Still need 2MB Chip RAM expansion + 2MB Agnus and it is finished (hint, hint )

Extended ROM EPROMs. 2x27C4001 = 4 switchable extended ROM banks. (1.0, 2.07, 2.30 and empty) Extra wires because 27Cx000 (obsolete type) and 27Cx001 have 2 pins swapped. (resistors are pull down resistors for bank-switching)

Kickstart EPROM 27C160 = 4 switchable 512K banks. (1.2, 1.3, 2.04, 3.1. One bank will be replaced with "3.9" ROM in future)

RAM expansion and joystick port adapter. Elbox 8MB Fast RAM expansion (+clock battery) in CPU socket and joystick port adapter installed.

Joystick ports

Full mainboard view

CDTV SCSI expansion

SCSI->IDE->CF adapter chain and #2 ACard AEC-7720U IDE to SCSI bridge -> 3.5"IDE to 2.5"IDE adapter -> 2.5"IDE to CF-adapter

Removed SRAM slot Does not fit anymore.

Finished CDTV without memory card flap

Finished CDTV with memory card flap Looks perfectly normal

@Toni:
Now THAT's my kind of circuit-bending!

I hope you find your 2MB Chip RAM expansion + 2MB Agnus too.

Who knows what next..? Find room for an A500 accelerator?
I don't suppose it was you who bought that Derringer 030 from eBay??
Would be lovely to see if a Viper 530 would fit with the lid on...
or
Ooooo
and
Aaaah -> Sound, Subway?

The possibilities are endless...
...now where can I find my own CD32?

@DrF:
AFAIA: 3.9 roms never existed in reality - just patches to 3.1...
...but there's nothing to stop you from using those patches to roll your own 3.9 + anything else you want & then burn that to eeprom.
Not just nerdy-cool... useful for speeding boot-up & adding updates specific to your setup.
For myself I don't have the equipment ( eeprom burner, not a cruel rumor! ) so I go the software route of using a kick-rom proggie & lose some ram.

Ah, that clears that up, I was thinking you could buy them and plug them in say a A1200 or something :P

You know... that Elbox 8MB ram would work quite well in an A600 in conjunction with the A6CPC board me thinks.... I tinhk theres enough room / physical size is there two...

how much are those 8mb cdtv ram boards? i cannot tell from the pic, (i may need new glasses) but does this board provide its own CDAC or does it poach it from Angus ?

There are no extra connections (two wires are for clock battery backup)

@Toni

thanks for the reply... its indeed a great looking CDTV, i love retr0-fitting i tihnk its in the blood

so elbox do a 2MB version eh? (interesting..... very interesting....)

Out of curiosity wouldn`t an A500 (68k socket) Memory upgrade work for a CDTV ? (space not being a factor)

Am i right in assuming that the the Elbox uses all the 8MB of configurable space?#

The Elbox 8MB card does use all of the configuration space unfortunately... Which is a shame.

A500 accelerators do indeed work fine in the CDTV (even with the Elbox 8MB RAM )

Also the clockport adapter works in a CDTV although the chip you have to attach a wire to has a different socket number.. It's U10 on the CDTV and not U8 like in the 500... (From what I remember)

True. Pretty much the first multimedia machine designed for the living room, well before its time - only now are HTPC's and media centre consoles/PCs beginning to take off.

Once again, a Commodore first but unfortunately the world wasn't ready for media centres back when it was released.

Here is my "version 2" CDTV expansion modification. (yes, I got another CDTV and decided to move all expansion hardware to this one) Includes single EPROM hack. (switchable between 1.3+1.0 or 3.1+2.07. In future it will have custom standard 1.3+1.0 and custom 3.x+custom extended ROM) and Mini Megi 2MB Agnus + 2MB chip RAM.

CDTV "v2" modified mainboard

(btw, A-Card 7720U firmware 3.86 is buggy, causes write errors with CDTV. 3.88 fixes the problem. Interestingly Supradrive worked fine, CDTV didn't..)

Cool CDTV! I bought one once too.Here two pics of the rest.
I am missing the CDTV Flash Memory on your mainboard ?
Mine had a dozen of soldered wires at the original mainboard.

I have found another useful CDTV expansion:
A CDTV keyboard adapter.With this small device
it was possible to connect an A500 keyboard to the CDTV.
