Amitcp slow ftp download
I have an XSURF100 and a 66mhz 060 connected at 100megabits. How much speed should I be getting?
On my pc with my 100mbit connection Downloads are 12mb/s Using Amiga, Dopus5 ftp, on the same site I can only see 84.4kb/s. Is this a problem with Dopus FTP module? Is there a something I need to configure on AmiTCP? Using Easynet Pro which has AmiTCP 4. |

Should be faster as I already get around 800 kb/s on my A1200 with Dopus5 and Roadshow but don't expect 12 MB/s - Amiga and networking is not the best on the market.

Is this site on LAN or elsewhere in Internet? For LAN I'd suggest to test if it's better with non-passive connection. For outside world Amiga stacks are missing some features which would be needed to max the speeds, but in your case it really is much slower than it should be in any case...
Transfers are CPU intensive, so with our humble 68k CPUs you can forget 12 MB/s speeds, but you still should get over 1 MB/s with that setup. I made some speed tests once with my A1200/060@60/Mediator/AmiTCP Genesis setup, and with 100Mbps NIC I got 1400 kB/s FTP downloads in LAN. It isn't that much faster than I got with 10Mbps NIC, but still few hundred kilobytes more. CPU is the limiting factor here. DOpus FTP module isn't to blame, I get as fast transfers as it's possible on my setup. What you could try in AmiTCP settings, is configuring TCP space values... for example to TCP_SendSpace=32768 and TCP_RecvSpace=32768, IIRC these were quite small in the default config. |

84.4kb/s seems too slow. I would expect 500-1000 KB/s.
As others said networking is CPU intensive. On similar hardware to yours my CPU hovers around 50% usage. It may depend on the size of files. Lots of small files will be slow. Try a online FTP speed test. |

The site is a ftp site elsewhere. I tried increasing the send and receive space from 8kb to to 32kb. I also tried increasing mbuf max mem from 256kb to 8192kb. Nothing is working.
I will try changing the MBUF Chunk from 64 and MBUF cluster size from 2048. Last edited by ancalimon; 16 January 2021 at 18:10. |
