Apple IIGS Exclusives

There weren't too many, but Task Force is one that I think would port nicely to the Amiga.

it is said that its the game that push the most the IIGS, I'm waiting for the CFFA3000 to be released to have access to all Apple II/GS library to test it on the real thing.
I'm more interested in porting games to the IIGS, but I can't find any cross C compiler targetting the IIGS.

For a game of that quality to play so fluidly on a stock IIGS, I'd say its pushing it alright, but there are other games that push it harder imo like Wolfenstein 3D and Rastan.

Well it seems for what I've seen of Rastan Saga, that Task Force do have more sprite on screen.

That's a good point, Task Force does have far more sprites onscreen than the other two. Rastan was impressive because it played faster and with a background score. Wolfenstein 3D was simply Wolfenstein 3D on a IIGS which many said couldn't be done.

I never had a AppleIIGS but I must admit after looking at the games and specs it seems like a really nice machine. Seemed to be at least graphically and sonically more powerful than the Amiga, I am surprised it didn`t do better.

I have a couple of IIGS systems, and a few Amiga systems, and I honestly don't think it would be accurate to describe the IIGS as more powerful than the Amiga either graphically or sonically, but it is a nice machine. As far as the amount of power you get with either system for the amount of money spent to purchase it, the Amiga was far and away a better value.

With reference to the OT, while it is hardly a IIGS exclusive there was a IIGS only conversion done of Ultima I - The First Age of Darkness that does nicely show off the sound capabilities of the machine while also improving on the graphics relative to those of the original Apple II version. You can find out more about that version here.

The CPU being only 2MHz did not help the Apple ][GS...

That's true because if you set a IIGS accelerator to go at exactly 2.8 mhz, it actually plays faster than a stock IIGS

Compared to the Amiga, The II GS also has The 1st episode of YS: "Ancient Ys Vanished Omens".

Not unique, but the IIGS had a nice port of Wolfenstein 3D

Same fate as Amiga - some games looks like ports from Atari ST.

It's supposed to be available for download, but I can't find a download of this anywhere. :-(

Joe Kohn, the guy who last owned rights to the game, passed away last year. I believe there are plans to make it abandonware, but right now the game is completely unavailable.

Actually, that's not quite true. I purchased a copy of the game a few years ago, before Joe's passing. Since that time, I've noticed that a copy of it is installed on one of the set of 32mb hard disk images that can be found on a certain IIGS website mentioned already in this thread.

OK, I found it, thanks. But HDV files don't seem to be supported by the emulator, so it is in fact useless. Maybe I should point this out to the webmaster there.
