Im trying to format/pardition cf hdd in classicwb in winuae. I followed the steps on the site. Ive added the hdd -> read write etc. changed the name from scsi to uaefwhatever so that i can see it in hdd tool box.

then when i click change drive type-> define new->read configuration

and get drive does not support inguiry method?

what am i doing wrong.

Btw I am using and sandisk 4gb ultra cf card-> cf card to ide adapter-> deltaco ide to usb to my laptop.

Which version of WinUAE do you use?

What is "uaefwhatever" exactly? Should be uaehf.device.

Sure that you selected the CF card and not the ClassicWB HDF?

hello.

i use winuae 2.2.0 and yes i ment uaehf.device.

In cwb i dont know. can only see unknown scsi device. But in winuae i chose the cf sandisk when i added hdd.

btw i can see it on the workbench if i click on the "add pc hardrives at startup" in winuae but i can format it.

In Windows disk management remove all partitions and drive letters from the card before you try to use it in WinUAE.

You can never see any unpartitioned drives on WB which probably means you didn't use "add harddrive" to add the CF.

Drive you see in hdtoolbox most likely has nothing to do with CF (it probably is some non-rdb hdf that can't be partitioned with hdtoolbox)

Method 1

WinUAE has the option of mounting and preparing a real hard drive for use on an Amiga! This option is only available in Win2k-XP. Win9x-ME unfortunately won't allow this feature.
Once mounted and formatted, the contents of the HDF can simply be copied directly over to the hard drive. Then it can be placed back into the Amiga ready for use.
The WinUAE device name to use with HDtoolbox or similar utility is "uaehf.device". If you've already partitioned the drive Amiga side, it should be visible in the hard drives tab after using "Add Harddrive".
Read the WinUAE documentation for further details, or refer to the internet.
It might sound retarded. but what does this mean? How do i go about?

I partitioned the disk in hdtoolbox. but i could not format it there. Instead i did so in workbench.

You did everything correctly. HDToolbox can only edit the partition table, it cannot format a partition. If you create a new partition or change the properties of an existing one, you need to reboot and then format the new/changed partition using the Workbench menu or the Format program/shell command.

Open a shell window (double click the icon on the bottom right of the screen) and enter

copy hdfdrive: cfdrive: all clone

replace "hdfdrive" and "cfdrive" by the names of the respective drives.

Regarding your hardcopy, this probably should be

copy system: empty: all clone

The label displayed below the icon shows the volume name. If you have multiple drives with the same volume name, open a Shell window and enter info, then use the device name instead of the volume name. You can use either the volume name or the device name to identify a drive, both will work. It's not like Windows where you have to use the drive letter and the volume name is only decoration.

This is done in HDToolbox. Select the partition and tick the bootable checkbox.
