Hall Of Light Reaches 2,000 Game Maps

The Hall of Light now has over 2,000 maps in its collection. The maps gives an overview of the level design which you usually don't get with the telescopic view of a game played normally. The maps are created using Retrospec's GFXRipper and the HOL member Nico's LvlRip, plus some headscratching.

Some of the highlights are:

Fury of the Furries
King's Bounty
Micro Machines
Paradroid 90
Nitro
Spirit of Excalibur
Superfrog
Turrican II
War In Middle-Earth
Zarathrusta
Cannon Fodder 2

Really great work guys
It's awesome to look at these maps. Especially when you think 'I've gone through all that?'
Keep it up!

Well done guys, don't know how you find enough hours in the day.

The gamemaps are a feature quite unique to HOL.

HOL is the greatest resource of documentation on games on a single platform: the greatest for completition, for information, for user-friendlyness and crap-freeness (i make up words as i go)...
compared to other platforms, even modern ones (ads-ridden game portals, sites that sport the same exact copypasted media and or text content to some extent, wannabe www journalism etc.), it simply stand out as the best.

it is just a ton of well organized, easy accessible, collected with love, hard facts.

thanks for the continuing great work!

Good work.

Btw, regarding turrican II maps, map 5 and 7 (long and horizontal) are a bit hard to click on because, I think, of the scaling applied (basically they are only one line picture). Not a major trouble in the end but a bit frustrating for online consultation. Could the whole cell containing the map be made clickable to open the map or something like that?

Let's start doing lolHols:

very nice! Looks like a lot of work went into this. Where are the watermark free ones so I can print out some without a "smudge" at the bottom right? I just noticed the large ones have multiple watermarks. crikey.

as you already said. we put much effort in creating them and this is one reason to protect them with watermarks.
but feel free to ask us for "watermarks-free" maps.

Point taken, but I think you will find a simple attribution license would do you well. ok. anyway, I'd quite like the turrican maps without watermarks please. buzz [at] exotica.org.uk

You don't take requests for maps to be added, right?

Jurassic Park could really use maps. I tried to map it myself while making the longplay but I was trying to do it manually, by taking screenshots and pasting them together.. wasn't too successful

Great I hope you'll solve the troubles, this game can be pretty confusing without maps (especially the 'sewers' in the first level ).
