PCMCIA CF adapter problem

I just installed the drivers for the PCMCIA Adapter and everything went fine. Now, when I inserted the card (after a reboot), nothing happens, no new icons appearing.

Does the card reader reads only Amiga File System or can it read a PC formatted CF card with files on it.

Anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks.

What did you install and how?

You need:

Fat95 in L http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95
CompactFlash.Device in 'Devs' http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/cfd
Put 'CF0' in 'DosDrivers' or 'Storage'

If CF0 is in DosDrivers your CF will mount when inserted, if it's in Storage you need to type in CLI:

Mount CF0:

Your CF card should be Fat16 or Fat32 formatted, do a 'quick format' on a PC and choose the smallest 'Allocation unit' available

Some CF's don't work in PCMCIA at all, but we'll cross that bridge later.

Ok. did the format but now the card shows on Amiga as CF0:NDOS?

What should I do? Format?

Thanks.

EDIT:
Nevermind. Need to install Fat95 first.

What make and size CF is it? Did you do the 'quick' format inside Windows? Try with FAT32 and smallest 'Allocation Unit' size as suggested

It's the CF card I got from AmigaKit. Did the Fat32 and 1024 bytes allocation unit quick format.

That doesn't help me know what brand and size CF it is, some brands don't play nice with Amiga's although I'd expect Amigkit to supply cards that do, have you asked them for support? As your reseller they might be the best port of call.

I assume the you bought the whole transfer kit from Amikit? Why didn't you say that in the first place when I asked 'how you installed the drivers?'

Finally check you are using the latest version of CFD (1.27) as IIRC some CF kits were sold with the older version 1.25

^^Sorry. Yes. It's a 4gb Amigakit card (I got the whole adapter package from AmigaKit). I can't tell which brand though. If all else fails, I'll get a SanDisk one. Seems they play along with PCMCIAs.

Hello

We did not supply you with a removable 4GB CF for use with the PCMCIA. You bought just the EasyADF PCMCIA adapter from us without card.

If you try and use the 4GB CF hard disk in the PCMCIA it will not work as the 4GB CF drive is a prepped as a fixed drive for use as a HDD.

You need a removable 4GB CF compatible with the Amiga's PCMCIA port here:

^^Sorry if it seemed I was implying I got the CF card WITH the adapter package. I didn't, it was the part of the CF 4GB IDE kit and I tried to reformat it/use it as a PCMCIA one (as I already have another card I'm using as a HDD).

Good to know it wasn't meant to work anyway..I was already starting to pull my hair (well, what's letf of it anyway..).

So, how about Sandisk card? Seems faster to buy one in the local store rather then ordering, I heard they work ok with PCMCIA?

P.S.
Got the ACA 1220 from you guys today. Works like a charm!

There is also no guarantee that the 4GB Compact Flash will work correctly with your Amiga 1200 such as what happened with me!

Mine might need timin fixes, don't know

Not currently, but if you format it with a PC, it will.
