Amiga compatibility layer like WINE

Hello all,

Is there already a fork of UAE which provides a compatibility layer for Workbench software to appear natively on another OS such as Mac or the FOSS implementation of BeOS -> Haiku-OS?

Since the Apollo 68080 FPGA soft-processor has come on the scene it opens up new possibilities. The Atari people have noticed and it will be the next machine to get the 68080 treatment. The Atari ST OS is called TOS and its horrible. They could dearly do with an upgrade to run their existing SW library. The Mac68k crowd will be getting the treatment next...

Now if one system were to be able to run all those diversity of software on the same screen...

Despite the under the hood shortcomings of cooperative multitasking, the Mac people are presumably quite content with what they have rather than moving to Workbench. However they may find Haiku enticing.

For Atari, anything will be an improvement. For Amiga... well Workbench is already pretty good. But BeOS/Haiku is basically a implementation of Amiga which has successfully done it all again and a bit more modern. Networking in from the beginning is the obvious thing which comes to mind.

I'm imagining that either Haiku could have elements of AROS (and Atari SpareMint) put into the foundations or a compatibility layer put over the top so that it can run software from other OS's on its desktop.

For full gaming mode or whatever, it would be UAE in full to get the complete version of compatibility mode.

No, there is not. Why do you think there could be such a fork?

Vamos is probably the closest thing. Command line programs only.
https://github.com/cnvogelg/amitools...r/doc/vamos.md

I believe it was used to build parts of OS 3.1.4

Also, many years ago there was a program for Sun-3 workstations (680x0 based) that could run some AmigaDOS command line applications. It ran SAS/C at least.

I'm wondering about a container on Haiku to allow it to run Amiga software on an Amiga compiled Haiku OS.

Perhaps the correct term is "API wrapper"?

Currently too much power at the moment in Silicon Valley. There is becoming a political need for a rebellious system which is not controlled by the political correctness thought police. After Tim Cooke's statements on Monday about the moral imperative of big companies to censor wrong think people, and after the Linux kernel debacle which is taking place over the "code of conduct", there is a chance of a lot of coders suddenly becoming available to assist in projects.

With the new hardware coming out, there is a window of opportunity for a way forward for Amiga at the same time there is becoming a need for an Alt-Tech revival :-)

ie recombine back into a mostly homogeneous mono culture that was so cool in the 90's. We are a bit too scattered with diversity of platforms at the moment.

If you seriously consider that a fourth ecosystem is sorely needed on the desktop, and if it could be Haiku, then please don't spend one second of your time writing any kind of API wrapper + 68k emu for running old Amiga SW on Haiku. Instead spend all of your time porting modern day applications to run on Haiku natively.

You are trying to make a lot out of pretty much nothing.
