Rotten floppies, hard on the drive?

Hi all, like many of you I have a mountain of 15 year + old floppies.
I recently decided to check them over for rot. As expected many many of them had errors. What concerns me most though is the noises my floppy drive makes whilst reading them. Is it possible for these old floppies to kill my drive?

The dirt will pollute the head. And maybe all following disks
can´t be read.Until the head is cleaned.

I've found a lot of my old discs don't work on the Amiga, even if the heads are cleaned on the drive. What I've done is get a Amiga 1200 and use WHDLOAD to put all the games on the harddrive.

Rotten floppies, hard on the heads.

Polluted heads can destroy disks.

The heads possibly (in extreme cases) mills rills into the disk-surface.
So a clean head is essential.

Disk destroyed by polluted heads.
