Wasn't really sure where to post this (as I'm using the latest beta so guess it should probably go there) but since we discussed vertical centering in this thread I'd thought to put it here; please feel free to move Toni.
I've been testing away and found another game that goes quite wrong with this option ticked; Dino Wars. Just like Pang, the option screen moves from the bottom to the top but when near the top jumps down and then continues up again... With Pang or Alien Breed I just switch off vertical centering and I'm happy. Unfortunately with Dino Wars if I do this all screens displayed are now way too high that they are off the screen I have a solution / workaround but it's a little messy: ... Start the game with vertical centering off. ... Select the Filter tab and move Vert Position to 800. I know that you said centering is now working as it should so will totally understand if you don't want to revisit this. Just thought I'd mention what I'm seeing. I've attached my config anyway. |

Another workaround that I found was to do the following:
... Have vertical + horizontal centering switched on (as I do in 95% of my configs and it works well). ... Change the scaling from "No scaling" to "Default". At least for Pang + Dino Wars this stops the scrolling / jumping issue; will test Alien Breed when I'm home tonight I wonder what it is in terms of vertical centering that's different when using "No scaling" as opposed to "Default"? Is it not possible to apply the same method when "No scaling" is selected? Ignore these questions if they're silly, is not how things are supposed to work or will break something. Sorry to be driving you insane Toni. Last edited by DamienD; 28 October 2015 at 12:16. |

Found 2 more games that suffer when having vertical centering enabled (scrolls up, jerks, jumps down, scrolls back up again):
... James Pond II - Codename Robocod ... James Pond II - Codename Robocod AGA Just thought I'd mention in case you can see a pattern with how all of these games render their graphics. I mean I'm happy with my current workaround i.e. unticking "Centering: Vertical" & setting "Vert. position: 800" so please only look into this if you can be bothered / have time Toni Last edited by DamienD; 04 November 2015 at 10:56. |

Centering and scrolling = undefined behavior, in other words, anything can happen, sorry

All good Toni; will use my workaround above when I find a game that suffers from this behaviour

This post is really just for reference... another game that slightly suffers from having vertical centering enabled is Miami Chase (only when Team 17 logo is unravelling).

Hello Toni,
Not really sure if this is a "bug" in WinUAE or just how the games are. It's is a bit difficult to explain in words... The issue is most evident in Skiz; basically I set the resolution to 720x576 so that you can see all graphics on screen. When you play the game and skate forwards the far left / right hand sides of the screen seem to flash / blink / re-overlap. Other games where the same far left / right hand sides of the screen are a few pixels up or down are as follows: ... 1000 Miglia ... Donk! - The Samurai Duck! ... Odyssey ... plus a few others that I've forgotten right now What do you think; just how the games are? |
