Hi guys,
I think i will buy a new pc near the new year, I will share my choices with you so far. CPU Intel Core i5-9600K GPU Nvidia RTX 2060S (Super) SSD HP EX920 NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB RAM G.SKILL Flare X DDR4 3200 C14 2x8GB what could be a good mobo ??? With a good overclock ??? for the Core i5-9600K ?? Perhaps i did bad choices ? Which tower do you like ?? Anyone a really good one, or a special one. For winuae, is there some advices ?? I'll continue to look my side but If you have any advices to share ?? I'll be happy to have them. ![]() Or perhaps a good complete PC with a good price win10 include ??? ps: Sadly, i think i'll have to jump to windows 10. ![]() Why no dx12 on win7 ? ![]() ![]() Last edited by turrican3; 19 November 2019 at 06:48. |

"For winuae, is there some advices" - huh? Any computer of the past decade and a half will do just fine
![]() If I were shopping for a gaming rig today, I would probably be going for 32gb of ram. There is absolutely no rocket science behind that decision; 16gb is what I put in my current gaming rig, so the next one is going to double it to be future proof. I am also wondering about that i5 processor, I haven't followed how they have developed so maybe they're still absolute powerhouses. But I put one in my current gaming rig which is now 4 years old and Jmmijo was already questioning my sanity about not going for an i7 back then. Last edited by gimbal; 25 November 2019 at 14:58. Reason: time flies, my current machine is actually four years old. |

First, for WinUAE, really, my 10 year old PC still plays it well. Even 2GB memory cheap laptop form 5 years ago that has 32GB HD plays ADFs without issues, but struggles with WHDLoad. (this laptop costed ~200 bucks back then and is used for Batocera now)
As for PC, I am planning on creating new gaming rig as well, but more likely will go ADM route. Something in this route... probably with just more HD space and more memory. (minimum 32GB) [ Show youtube player ] |

If you are looking for a really good gaming rig and not to spend over the top prices then might I suggest going with an AMD setup.
The Ryzen 3600 paired with the 5700/5700XT does quite well. If you pair that with a nice B450 or X470 motherboard and 16 or 32GB of 3200 memory then you are doing quite well. If you are going to stuck with Intel and nVidia then yes that 9600K will still do quite nicely but is limited in it's upgradability. |

One thing I am also planning - get 2 SSD - one for OS + basic programs - smaller size (250GB or 500GB), second for documents folder / steam library (active games) / emulation (1TB). One hybrid drive should be enough to keep most of games downloaded, backups and some emulation stuff I don't care about speed for read/write (5+TB).

I would suggest not skimping on anything less then a 1TB boot/os drive. |

As there are more likely to be sales over next 2-3 weeks, I might actually go for larger HD. One mentioned above is kind of minimum what I hope to get.
Thanks! |

Intel is just the wrong choice right now and for the foreseeable future, go and start again making the right choice.

32 GB is ok, i understand.
Why is it amd a better choice ??? Sorry but it makes a long time since i have a look to hardware. A larger ssd, yes why not,1tb, ok seems ok, like the choice of an hybrid drive is normal. I'm ok with all your suggestion. Just doesn't know why AMD, but 'll have a second look to it. About the i5 choice, i'was happy with my i5 2500k bought long ago and i compared the power of a Core i5-9600K vs an i7 and for price i prefer the i5. But my mind could change. Thank you for your advices. |

Shit, I thought I wrote message here, got somehow lost... Multitasking is getting more and more hard.
![]() Firstly, thing with HD and hybrid drives is more me, since i like to have games downloaded just like Jimmijo. Only difference is that I usually move one that I play to SSD disk. (we are talking only of couple hundred games in my case) @ Ian, what would you recomend for mobo + cpu + video card? I was thinking on something in this line... Really all depends on what you are willing to spend. Cannot go wrong with a Ryzen 3000 series and Nvidia GPU at the moment

I'd make sure the motherboard has at least one preferably two M.2 slots, even if it adds another €50. M2 drives (samsung) are so stupendously fast even booting win 10 becomes bearable.
Other than that, if you need to "save" money I'd probably go with a ryzen 2000 build, they'll be dirt cheap on black friday. Then a year or so down the line upgrade it to a 12/16 core ryzen 3000 You can get some really good audio with external DACs like FIIO, as in less noise/flat, instead of spending money on motherboard sound. But for regular gaming, onboard sound is perfectly fine. Graphics cards are tough though, we're at the end of a console generation. I've been burnt a by AMDs drivers a bit too often, but Nvidia cards are effin overpriced right now. And supposedly the latest AMD card + vulcan should be good in modern games. Things probably won't settle until the Ps5 is out and "raytracing/casting/approximation" support in game engines have become standardized. For reference here's my summer build. It felt a bit over priced in the end.

Practical tip, but it looks like the number of boards with zero support for it is incredibly low nowadays.
