ExApp 1.2 by Dominic Clifton (Hydra/LSD)
Hi,
There was a coder called Dominic Clifton, alias Hydra/LSD that coded a program named ExApp1.2 which is an appicon that can run programs when a file is dropped on it. It was previously downloadable at "http://homepages.force9.net/dsltd", but now the link no longer exists and the wayback machine doesn't have the archive. Anyone have it? Seems it's the only program from him which is not found on Aminet... Thanks. Leandro. Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 11 November 2018 at 09:38. |

@Leandro, hi! Dominic here.
Did you manage to find it? @rygar I also wrote HydraBBS too. My biggest Amiga project. Turned out I should probably have been writing internet related tools as BBS's were on their way out... Still those were fun times. |

Firstly, it is great to talk with you. No, I didn't found version 1.2 yet, unfortunately. Are you asking that because you are willing to upload it somewhere for me? That which I was saying that the software is not very impressive is not entirely true. It is very good, but I don't remember now what was the bug that I found, that made me say that. I am sorry for that. |

Hi Leandro,
I had a look for the files, I have a collection of many of the distributions archives, but I can't currently locate that one, nor can I find the source for some of my old Amiga apps. Many years ago my mum threw out my A1200 with my 68030 expansion + internal HDDs, and left my younger brothers crappy old A500 in a drawer which she was supposed to be getting rid of instead. She didn't know the difference and many things were lost as a result! To say I was horrified is an understatement of epic proportions. At the time I used to do backups on DAT tapes, I still have those tapes somewhere but no DAT drive. I think I used either diavolobackup or amibackup, if you know of anyone that has a DAT drive and can recover them let me know. |

Also, yeah, that ExApp program was pretty handy at the time. If I recall, instead of it opening the application defined in the .info file when double clicked, you could instead drag and drop it onto the ExApp AppIcon and it would attempt to determine the content of the file and then launch your preffered app and pass the filename as an argument.
I don't remember exactly how it worked, but I think there was a library that did the grunt work of identifying a file based on it's content and it used that, perhaps in combination with some internal file content identification system. Then likely there was probably some configuration file with a mapping between content type and command line. I think that was over 25 years ago though now, so my recollection might not be accurate |

No, sorry, I don't know of anyone with a DAT drive, that could help. If would be possible for me to help you, I would be glad, of course.
But, if you are saying that because you are worried in helping me to resolve my request, don't worry anymore because I found a replacement. |

I sent @dominicclifton a PM a few weeks ago offering to get the data off DAT tapes, but alas have had no reply.
I'm replying here in the hope it might be read, or Dominic subscribed to the thread and gets an e-mail notification. |
