Sound issues in Roadkill A1200 in 2.7.0

Trying to run the disk version of Roadkill (IPF-sourced) in WinUAE and I'm getting some weird issues with the sound. The title music is fine but when you race around the track most of the sound effects are just replaced with noise (although you can hear the rev sound pitching up and down, just that it's noise instead of an actual sound!) - I've tried a QuickStart config for A1200 and my own config and nothing seems to solve it. Any ideas?

I don't think so. It would affect all games, not just one. (Windowed mode slowdown = bad driver, too slow PC, some weird display driver control panel config, double vs triple buffer change may also help sometimes)

This also happens with a real Amiga with ACA 1230. Should file a mantis bugreport.

Bamiga2002: That's interesting to know. I think the last time I played this on a real Amiga was my vanilla 1200... wonder if it would have the same issue with the Blizzard 030 I have now... Quite possible it really is just a bug with the game then!

I'm running in fullscreen but as Toni says that shouldn't really make a difference.

Tested Roadkill WHDLoad (version 2.1-B - 22.05.05) with A1200+BPPC, same thing. It's like a fuzzing sound when you drive around the tracks, and the AGA-version is the culprit - CD32-version sound is OK.

That's curious - I tried CD32 version in WinUAE with WHDLoad install and still got the buzzing sound.

Should point out that it's more intermittent than I thought though. Occasionally the sound will work just fine but then you can go on to the next track or even be half way round the one you're on and some of the sounds will suddenly turn to static.

It probably is bad sound DMA waits + 68020 CE mode being not accurate enough yet. It would also explain why it only happens on faster real hardware.

Hi all - does anyone have any suggestions for a config which will minimise this sound error in newest WinuAE 3.3.0?
Toni - is there any chance of this being fixed in the future? If you are right I assume this could be a long way off?
Thanks

still the same problem 5 yrs later , this time it does the same on my tf330 030 and also did it on the tf328, the cd32 version starts out working ok,then when i fire a rocket,the accelerate button on the joypad no longer works.
So probably a problem with the whdload version of the 2.1b version of the game rather than a winuae problem.

2.2 fixes the control problem. For the sound, I couldn't reproduce yet, which is frustrating, as so many people have the issue

Try these settings (tooltypes for the WHDLoad icon) for Roadkill CD32/A1200:

SLAVE=RoadkillCD32.Slave
PRELOAD
ExecuteStartup=
ExecutePostDisk=uae-configuration cachesize 0 cpu_speed real cpu_compatible false

(assuming you have C:uae-configuration tool in your command path). No trashed samples.

I don"t care about a winuae setting that fixes the sound. If real amigas have issues with the sound, I'd prefer a winuae setting that trashes the sound so I can 1) reproduce 2) fix.

Yep, I have the original floppy disk version of this game and can confirm that the sound effects in-game are corrupted on my accelerated A1200. A WHDLoad version I downloaded however works fine with all sound intact on the same machine. I can't remember what version it is exactly - maybe the CD32 version?

Yes. Some people reported that the CD32 version has no sound issues when the AGA version had issues. Some reported that CD32 version had issues too... Go figure

@Daedalus can you test the AGA version on your machine? I can provide it if you don't have it

Sure, I don't have access to my original disks at the moment and I'm not 100% sure I have it installed (or have images of the disks) since I found a different version that works, so if you have an archive you'd like me to try, send it on. It might be a few days but I'll try it out soon.

I'll PM you my email address.

I would say just test using Retroplay's preinstalled package:

Roadkill_v2.2_AGA_1108.lha
