I agree, We all appreciate the amount of time and work you put into these packs, they are worth waiting for... Simply the Best

Just to shut us up for the mo though, could we have access to the last preview release... Keropi is making us so jealous.

Thanks

Subtle

It would be good for those of us who can't wait for the "official" release though... I've just started to get into OS3.9 and it would be good to check it out

Probably have to be patient though...

Ok guys, time for another beta! I've put together a quick page with some pics of it running in its default 64 colour screenmode. Not very good ones at the moment but I'll tidy it up once I have time:

http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/ultpics.htm

There have been some big changes and improvements in this one and as before the pack can be downloaded via a pm request if you're a regular member. The reason for this is it isn't ready for general release therefore I want to know where it's going, rather than spread in its current state.

Some important changes:

The file is now a HDF like the other ClassicWB packs but the install procedure is different as I haven't got round to completing it yet. To complete the install of this pack you'll need:
  • An OS3.9 HDF - I recommend one containing a full install with all updates/boing-bags.
  • UAE - WinUAE recommended.

To install, you simply mount your OS3.9 HDF as the bootable partition DH0: and then add the ClassicWB HDF as DH1:

Boot into OS3.9 and access the DH1: HDF containing the ClassicWB files.

In the root of DH1:, you'll find an Install39 icon under the trashcan. Double click and follow the instructions. It will copy over the required OS3.9 files and complete the ClassicWB install.

Once finished, you can now boot from the ClassicWB HDF as it's complete.

Progress is slow, but we're getting there guys! Any feedback or problems let me know so I can sort it out for its official release.

Some important notes on the current version:
  • You can enable and disable default components like FBlit, AmiDock, ToolsDaemon and MagicMenu via the settings menu. Customize it to your tastes.
  • Patches like ENV Handler, BlazeWCP and IconBeFast are disabled by default, but can be enabled via the settings menu.
  • Multiboot is available. Hold the right or left mouse button for low mem and patch free environments. Note that FBlit is a universal setting, so if you have it enabled in the normal Workbench, it'll also be enabled in the low mem Workbench in order to save chipram.
  • iGame is included to launch WHDload titles with the correct repositories setup - just search for the titles after you've placed them in the games and demos drawers. Remember that you can move many drawers to different partitions if you wish. For instance, you can move the Games drawer to another partition. All you need to do is edit the user-startup file so the assign A-Games: points to the correct path as all the software is designed to use these base assigns!
  • The "Files" folder on the desktop (see pics) contains scripts for automatically adding WHDload games and demos to the built-in low resource launcher. This is useful if you need to launch titles without the overhead of iGame. There is also a separate file and launcher for your own custom links.

Ok, enjoy peeps.

You can force install using OS3.5 - it checks the OS version and if it's wrong (ie not 3.9), it'll tell you but let you force the install using the 3.5 files instead.

I'm not sure if it'll work with OS3.5 at the moment. I don't have a copy to test and this beta version may cause problems due to mixing of files.

I do intend to have OS3.5 compatibility eventually, but during the beta stage I'm afraid I can only support 3.9 (although 3.5 MAY work). Try it.

out of curiosity, how do you get rid of that bar in the bottom, with the shortcuts, and have the normal icons as in the other classicwbs? that will be the firs thing i'll do when the release version will get out

If you mean AmiDock (the icon launcher bar) that comes with OS39, it can be disabled from the settings menu along with other components like magicmenu and toolsdeamon. If you every decide to use them again, they can easily be re-enabled from the same menu.
