First shot with this game after a long time, I think that I've correctly calculated my score.
I "died" in the 19th race (I started the "hard" level from race 9 and that probably wasn't a good idea! )
I hate that salesman!!! Sell me the car, *bast***!!!

It's easier in class 1 and 2 to begin with races 9-7 but in class 3 race 9 always seems the most difficult so I start there from race 1. Went game over on track 5 (guess I'll skip this next time I reach class 3 and only try it fully equipped at the end).

Played worse than last time so much less prize money but got 1 race further by skipping track 5. After beating track 6 I also skipped track 7 but still failed at track 8.

I had the last 3 races (7, 8 and 9) of the hard level to complete... I tried the 7th and lost miserably...

Having fun with this, a great game. I never played it just because I had Super Cars 2, one of my favorite of all times...

Also mostly played SC2 because I found SC1 impossibly hard back in the day. Now that I really got into it I think SC1 is the best top down racing single player experience due to its challenge.
SC2 remains one of the best 2 player games ever.

I'm starting today as I've completed I'm back from family holiday and looking to get stuck in.

I prefer Super Cars II as the handling is a little nicer and the turn and skid dynamics somehow more natural.

That said Super Cars is definitely more of a challenge.

Yeah my euphoria for this game has cooled down a bit. Agreed, Super Cars II is the better game also in single player mode. Still Super Cars is a very worthwhile classic.

Almost went game over on tracks 5 and 6 (see 1:08:40) in class 3.
No chance on track 7 then. Tracks 7-9 really seem impossible with the 5L Retron Parsec. Wonder how you're supposed to take corners with the 8L car.

Lost again twice at race 7 of hard level after having won the first 6 races...
Next time I'll try race 9 after the first 6 races...

Apart from buying power steering, on the longplay it shows the player slowing down before the corner by taking the power off, and then slowly going around it. This would make sense, as it happens in normal racing, but in this game it can send the car skidding. In your video I noticed you use small corrections rather than holding to steer in a constant direction, and this is part of the key. Just before a corner, go wide and then cut in. This will unstabilise the car but give a tighter turn. This works with the first two cars but with the Retron 8L I'd suggest also braking before the corner.

Would be nice to see a few more players for this classic game, as letting EAB win by default is not really a team score to be proud of.

Game completed playing the first 6 races and then race 9, 8 and 7...

It was quite hard at the end, in the last 3 races I arrived second twice and third once and I also spent a lot of money buying everything before the races.

But, at the end, it was worth it.

Congratz, really not an easy task!

@lifeschool: Thanks for the advice. Found the 8L Retron Parsec to be not that hard to control after all when I tried it again (except for hairpins).

Thanks mate!

If I get time I'll try to improve my score... I arrived first in many races but I arrived also second at least in 4-5 races and once I arrived third so there is a good margin to have more money at the end of the game... obviously how much money you have depends on the car seller as well.

BTW, I bought the 8L Retron Parsec when I still had 3 races to complete the medium level... that car is a bit more difficult to control (in fact I arrived second in a race of the medium level that I usually had won) but it is so fast that you easily pass the opponents. Using the 8L Retron Parsec I found really helpful the "retro" tool that you can buy in the shop (with "spin assist" and "power steering", of course).

Thanks for the tip - never bought the retro (brakes) upgrade before. With the 8L car you never need the speed kit and turbo charger anymore, right?

Yes, I never bought them, except for the last three races when I bought everything.

I made a spreadsheet with libreoffice with all the possible sentences you can use during the bargaining with the seller.

I think it is quite complete, there are two sheets in the file, one is easily printable (it's just one page) and the second is easier to read on a computer.

Feel free to complete/correct it if you find some mistakes... hope this helps!
I am going to upload this in the zone as well.

Are we 100% on this? On my best run I was buying the Turbo Charger right up until the end (although I was thinking about it during the races as I also suspected you didn't need to purchase it) but I became convinced it was making a difference

To be honest I never bought the "speed kit" and the "turbo charger" during my best game except for the last three races. I must admit, though, that I always had a very fast car... consider that I bought the fastest car when I was still racing on the medium level.

I think that the "speed kit" isn't that necessary if you have a fast car, the "turbo charger", instead, can be useful if you find a track with lots of sand puddles in the "wrong" spots...

Yeah I think the Turbo Charger still helps a little even for the 8L car.

I think if you have the money to spare, buy everything you can to gain an advantage. Its not like the player is saving up for a new car as soon as they get the 8L. The side impact shields will save money on car damage, and everything else seems to help. I never buy missiles, but I guess knocking out the 2nd fastest car will often help you catch up to the leader.

liviux76 - Thanks so much for the spreadsheet! Yes I can suggest a few changes, and I'll use my notes to produce a slightly more accurate version as a help file for the Lemon database Super Cars page. That way, anyone can find these when searching for the game. You definitely saved me typing them up.
