Uploading 50 - 60fps videos to Youtube?

Does anyone know if there's a way to make Youtube accept 50, 60fps videos? I tried uploading a 50fps video but it's not 50fps. Scrolling is not smooth. It seems like it's reducing the frame rate.

You don't need more than 24-30 FPS for videos.

Television is 24 FPS, did you ever think it's not smooth enough ?

@ancalimon

YouTube maxes out at 30fps, anything more than that and it will convert it back down (usually badly). I don't know of any web service that offer more than 30 fps

@Lord Riton

TV is 50 images per second (or 60 in USA/Japan/some others). Films are shot at 24 fps but they are very careful to shoot them in such a way that the judder is not too visible.

Wasn't The Hobbit filmed in 60fps?

Also, answering the question I don't believe Youtube does 50/60fps, others can though. I can't remember which off the top of my head.

I think The Hobbit is at 48fps, James Cameron is maybe using 60 or 72 for the Avatar follow-ups. But these are very recent exceptions, for the other 100 years that movies have been made its always been 24 fps (or less, in the very early days)

You do not mean 50Hz and 60Hz (25/30fps)?

Isn't 50hz equal to 50fps when we are talking about recorded videos?

It's 50 FIELDS per second not FRAMES, because the TV signal is interlaced.
Interlaced signal only displays every other line per field.
I hope that makes sense.

So why doesn't having a 24fps video of Amiga gameplay produce smooth scrolling? I looks like every second frame is skipped. It seems like we are missing something in this logic.

50 fields per second still means 50 different images per second. You can't retain the smoothness with 25 frames per second on YouTube. Every other image is either lost or gets blended with the other.

Eventhough interlaced PAL only has 25 distinct full frames per second, the two fields that each frame is composed of is time-interleaved which means that movement will be as smooth as 50 fps video. 24 fps video does not seem very smooth to me even in the cinema and the 48 fps of The Hobbit was a huge improvement if you ask me. I still think that 60 or 72 should be noticably better than 48 fps, so am looking forward to seeing that.
That being said, 24 fps is not just 24 fps. The blanking interval (black part between frames) has a big impact on how smooth it seems. Normal LCD does not blink, and thus looks a lot more juddery than CRT which does not 'hold' the picture (only a little due to the afterglow in the phosphorous).

If you want smoothness with the 60Hz LCD, you need some multiples fps of the its Hz, like 15pfs, 30fps or 60fps. Otherwise you'll see the tearing, because it's out of sync.

You are loosing frames at 24fps, so the jerkiness may come from that.
What you can try, is to use a de-interlacer, some good video editing sw should have that option. That should convert the video to smooth 25fps, I hope.

Still with the deinterlaced 25 fps progressive video you need to drop your LCD on to 50 hertz frequency to keep it sync.

Unfortunately most video editing software has only primitive deinterlacing algorithms. If it would be "natural" video material, there are some ways to simulate motion blur, which would make the video look less jerky. But if we are talking about Amiga game footage, that would look out of place too so there isn't much that can be done I've certainly tried.

Just found a site that supposedly supports higher frame rates. Uploading a test video of Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis.

It doesn't look smooth and I see what you mean.

@ancalimon

That site has kept the video at 50 fps, nice find. Hopefully it remains that way.

The scrolling on that particular clip still isn't smooth though, when I step through it frame-by-frame. Perhaps that is due to how it is recorded or the game itself, not sure if SCUMM games are even designed to work that way. Being from the U.S., maybe they would work better at 60 fps?

I think that's how it exactly looks like on an Amiga. Fate of Atlantis did have smooth scrolling unlike PC version but it wasn't silky smooth.

I just tried it on A1200 and is more smooth on Amiga then on your video, I used 1084 monitor.
It's actually almost perfect scroll when you go back from the door to the street.
In your video, it jumps a lot.

Anyway,
My kids saw the game, now they want to play it, so I let them.
