1080 Monitor Composite Out is B&W

I have my Amiga 1200 hooked up to a 1080 via the RGB port and it works flawlessly. To save some desk space I wanted to hook my Atari 800XL up to the monitor using the composite port in the back, but all I get is a B&W image. I tried my Coleco Adam and got B&W as well. I know the cable works properly because I get color on my 1702 with it. Is there something wrong with my monitor or can it not do color composite on non-Amiga systems?

BTW I'm in the US so everything is NTSC. No PAL/NTSC mix ups here.

Are you sure your monitor is not a PAL unit?

If it is NTSC, then something is wrong on the colour decoding chip (inside the monitor).

Yes, I'm 99.99% sure. The box even has a US retailer sticker on it.

Dumb question, but if the color dial or tint were tuned all the way down would that cause it to be in B&W?

Depends on the monitor but possibly. Some RGB inputs on monitors over-ride the chrominance adjuster.

The RGB input on this monitor isn't affected by the color dial, I know that as I read it somewhere. But I assume the composite is (otherwise why have an adjust at all?). I assumed everything was set correctly because the RGB looks right, but it just occurred to me that the dial may still be set wrong because it is ignored in RGB mode.

Sigh, that was it. I turned the color dial back and BAM! color. I feel like an idiot now.

I prefer to think of it as 'professionally overlooked fault'

Good that it was a simple fix, colour faults can be nasty in TV / monitor to find.
