I thought you had the same board as Kipper?

I have the board manufactured by @kipper2k, which looks the same as the one in the first post, but @Jope says it won't work.
You can see why I'm confused. Last edited by Starglider 2; 09 October 2015 at 20:17. |

That's strange. Is kippers Mother Board the same as yours?
I gotta ask; is the KS mod (1 or 2 wires) needed for this mod or just to get a higher KS than 1.2? |

The wires mod is needed to get Kickstart 3.1 installed on a Rev 5 board. |

If your poor Gary hadn't broke a leg then you could have tried removing the solder blob on the ram expansion like Kipper did.
I still think the red screen is a KS problem. There is a colour chart somewhere that gives a clue to the error. Found it..... http://wiki.classicamiga.com/Amiga_b...r_code_colours |

So I'm still not sure why the KS is causing a red screen.
Could my solder blob on JP2 cause a red screen if done poorly? I have to buy some solder wick before I can revert that completely. |

Have you got a solder sucker?
About the KS wire mod; Kipper used a 2.05 KS and needed only one wire, so, to me, it looks like any higher KS than 1.2 needs some kind of wire mod. Have you removed the wire mod now you're using KS1.2? |

I don't have a sucker.
Yes, I removed the wire mod. That mod is soldered to my KS3.1 chip as in the photo, it's not part of the board mod. |

So, to remove the ram mod you need to desloder JP2 upper and blob JP2 lower. Then either fix poor Gary or get another chip.
Just a thought, you could install a ON-OFF-ON switch to JP2 to enable/disable the mod for future use. Also you could add a switch to the ram board where the solder blob is. (Or jumpers) |

Which solder blob on the RAM board? I'm still working on the information that the RAM board is not compatible with Rev 5 at all.

If you look at kippers link to the high resolution pic you can see where he has removed the solder blob on the ram expansion. 14 pins down.
EDIT: Unless I'm mistaken and it's on the underside of the ram board. Well if kippers board is a rev5 (like yours) and he's using his ram board (like yours) and it works (not like yours) then something is wrong somewhere. The only thing different is the KS. Kippers using a 2.05 with one wire mod!! Last edited by Arnie; 09 October 2015 at 21:07. |

The solder blob you're referring to says "ExtClockEnable". I thought that was just for the Clock (for the Amiga to know what the time is), no?

I honestly don't know. I'm just going on what Kipper posted.
If you look at your board and the pics, is there an obvious difference with the solder blobs? |

Yes, my board has ExtClockEnable soldered, his has the solder removed. I'll try removing it!

Hold on, don't you need a fully working Gary to be able to do that?

No, the leg needs to be removed from the Gary for the 1MB chipmem mod to work. That's what I'm trying to achieve. I'm trying to get 1MB chipmem. That is done by:
- Moving JP2 blob from lower to upper - Taking the leg out of Gary - Installing chipmem board in expansion slot - Kickstart 2+ - Agnus 8372A For some reason I have red screen, so I'm trying removing the solder blob on the chipmem expansion board from ExtClockEnable as you noticed it is the only difference. |

No good. I removed the ExtClockEnable blob and still get red screen for 1 second then dark gray screen.

Yes but, Kipper didn't remove the Gary pin, he just removed the solder blob on the ram board.

HOLY S@#T!
It worked. I was wrong in my last post @Arnie, you're an unwitting genius! I repaired Gary's leg, but retained the ExtClockEnable solder blob removal mod. Suddenly no red screen, system boots, 1MB of chipmem! It's real chipmem too. Programs that didn't work before due to low chipmem do now. @Jope, bending out Gary's leg does not work and causes red/dark gray screens (at least with my config – Rev 5, KS3.1, 8327A, kipper2k board). Also, the kipper2k board does work with Rev 5 machines. Last edited by Starglider 2; 09 October 2015 at 21:52. |
