query about amiga hard drives

Hey

First off id like to say thanks for everyones help, I know have WHDLoad running with a couple of my old favs

Whats the bet way to look after a hard drive thats almost 10 years old?
I just got a read error from it, so repartitioned and lowlevel formatted it...

Also, there is no actual way to "shutdown" an amiga like you do with a pc or is there? Does it / can it damage or lose data if you just power off from the box?

cheers

No, there is no "shutdown" option, just turn it off when you're finished (obviously making sure no disk activity is taking place)

If you're using the internal ide interface, then any size will do. However, unpatched, the system won't allow you to use more than the first 4gb of space on the drive. Not really a problem, although you'll have to watch out for not crossing this 4gb limit when partitioning the drive. This is because crossing the limit will screw up the data on your drive (not the drive itself). Also, I think the partition size is limited to 2gb.
