I only briefly talked with Laffer but he was helpful and patient helping me find my way around a huge game once.

This is a truly sad day. Another well-loved Amigan leaves. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. RIP Laffer. You'll never be forgotten.

Word travels fast.
I haven't come across him on EAB yet, but I remember him from me watching his Road Blaster longplay. (RB is a laserdisc games released by Data East in the '80s.) RIP Laffer. |

Such a sad loss for the community and his family. I hope he is now at peace and given time his family and friends can come to understand and forgive his decision. There's just no reasoning with depression when you're the one in the quagmire.

It is always sad when someone dies.
But if someone goes by choice, it's even worse. My heart goes out to all who knew him. |

Laffer's brother delivered the bad news to a personal friend he had there, with wishes to pass it along to those concerned. I'll borrow the snippet that matters: Quote:

Oh my god that's sad.
I shared a few pm's with him and had an awesome long conversation on Skype, he was such a nice guy, so enthusiastic about games, so open, so easy to talk to even though my spoken English sucks. We played 2 maybe 3 Hearthstone matches, he beat my ass in 5 minutes since I didn't play the game that much, and we spent the rest of the evening on talking and him showing all of his gaming collection on camera, he was so proud about all those boxed classics he had. It sucks how frequently he mentioned his condition and how he was thinking about euthanasia all the time, so I usually skipped to other topics, not wanting to talk about death... RIP buddy, you will be missed. Sorry I didn't have the time to play Heartstone with you at least once a few weeks... Yes, most people who talked with him on Skype. His first name was Øystein. I've checked and there's nothing online about him under his real name. You'd think it would have made a local newspaper or obituary. Don't suppose it matters, it won't change anything. Like many of you I have the urge to bring reality home, and seeing it in black and white would do that I suppose. It's all a bit unreal at the moment. You know, depression is the biggest cause of mortality in men under 50?

Thanks for all the videos Laffer.
I used to love SotB but I could never get anywhere near the end. The first time I saw the ending was on one of his videos. After much repeated viewing, I was able to complete the game myself without any cheats. The exact same story applies for SotB2 as well, watching his video where he casually passes up several health potions is quite something! Check out [ Show youtube player ] where he takes on the boss with almost no health, even though there is a potion in the same room! Very inspirational. Then he posted several videos comparing different conversions of the games. I must have watched them all, really interesting stuff. I'll miss him. Last edited by capehorn; 27 April 2015 at 21:41. |
