A4000D , psu replacement
Hello,
As the PSU died I decided to put an SFX/mATX one. I found from a guy a 220watt , the +12v current is ok , 15A, but the current on +5v is just 12A. Do you think that is not suitable for my A4k ? (the current for +5v on the original PSU is 18A). my spec: A4k rev B, CyberStorm 060 mk1 (with scsi + RAM modules) , CyberVision 64, Indivision AGA, DKB 3128, Deneb USB, Quantum Atlas ultra3 9GB HDD. thx in advance. While I can not answer if that is enough, I would like to buy the old PSU if you still have it and its a skynet model =)

Ian Stedman has information about minimum requirements for various systems on his website
http://ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/amiga_..._supplies.html I would use something beefier for your system. For my own supplies, I have a 450W Thermal Take PSU that I use as a PSU for testing boards that I repair and I have an identical one in my modified A2000. |

I have found that MicroATX supplies are a bit stingy in the +5V rails, if you have a top notch 4000 PSU, I think it was rated to 18A.
I have found that if you wanted something in the range of 25A to 30A, you need high wattage ATX supplies (Like my Thermaltake HighpowerXT in my desktop). I am always on the look out for A4000 compatible PSU's with large Amperage on the +5V rails, they are RARE. Something over say 20A on the +5 and I might be able to put the SD Card on to the IDE > SCSI Bridge, and on to the Cyberstorm MK II SCSI. I did get it to work momentarily, until it tried to boot from the Operating system, at which point it froze so I think the original power supply's age is letting it down from delivering full Amperage to the rails and such, when the system boots, all the gear cranks up to load the OS, and Crash. Remember, this is an A4000, with an Indivision AGA (Scan Doubler), Cyberstorm MK II, and an IDE CF adapter so it has more than the average A4000, so bung in the extra requirements to run the SCSI, and IDE/SCSI bridge......., power supply just says "No way Jose !!!!!", crash. Do you have a link to any, I would always be interested in getting one with a higher amperage on +5V, but its difficult in Australia.

Something for my 4000, that has Buckets of amperage on +5V (around 25A) that isnt a Kilowatt Power supply , I aim to get the Cyberscsi, Scsi-IDE bridge and CF card running properly without the system crashing on boot which has previously been attributed to lack of current on the +5v. The crash on boot only happens when the system tries to boot from CF card off of the Cyberstorm setup (MKII, Cyberscsi, Bridge and CF card). CF boots fine from the regular IDE.
Are you still at your original Internode address ? |

This is what I got : http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/48
be-quiet uses Seasonic/FSP for their PSUs As I see you can find the Seasonic there http://www.powerhousepc.com.au/index.php?productID=1094 , its 20A on +5v anyway... |

25A on 5 volt line, 3A on +5VB line. Only 72A on +12V though |
