SD Card is Write Protected

Greetings all,

I'm facing an issue with SD card. After writing my Workbench HDF file created by HstWB installer to SD card (using Win32DiskImager) I'm getting error that the CF card is write protected.

needless to say, I never had this issue with CF cards, I created different versions of WB (3.1.4, 3.9, BettwerWB or classic) with HstWB Installer and all of them work flawlessly on WinUAE or my Real Amiga 1200.

I ordered an IDE to SD card and waiting for my package so meanwhile I can not test the SD card on my A1200.

I would greatly appreciate it if you kindly give me some advice on this matter.

SD cards indeed have a write protect switch. Maybe you switched it on by accident?

Thank you for your reply, the switch is not on, I just finished writing the HDF image file on it.
To make sure I changed the switch, the same result!

Yeah SD cards are a bit more finicky then the CF cards. (At least in myt experience anyway.) You may have to try multiple brands and sizes to find ones that work well and when you do BUY THOSE religiously. I have Sandisk 8GB and they work pretty well, but the 32s do not. I also am having an issue where I build a 3000 disk in WINUAE with everything I wanted nicely tweaked and put it in my 3000 and it won't read it at all. Seems I have to format my SD card physically in the 3000 for the reader to see it. Which of course defeats the whole purpose of trying to create a 3000 "image" which was my intent. Anyway, try Sandisk MicroSD 8GB as they work for me.

Thank you for your reply. I got this one from Amazon:

SanDisk 32GB Ultra SDHC UHS-I Memory Card - 90MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, SD Card - SDSDUNR-032G-GN6IN

I really need 32GB, I have a huge collection of ADF files which I want to have them on my A1200. I want to switch to SD card from CF since CF cards are more expensive.

any suggestion on a 32GB brand that works with WinUAE and A1200?

I'm trying to write the same image (16GB Version) to a new 16GB Micro SD card and I will post the result.

Ok I just figured out that my SD card reader is causing the problem, I write the image on Micro SD card and then I used the card on my SD card reader same problem "write protected" then I inserted the micro SD card in my Surface pro micro SD slot and everything works perfect.

Thank you all for helping me

For me, same issue different circumstances. I've been trying to write a PiMIGA image to a 32GB Sandisk MicroSD card. None of my PC MicroSD Card readers will do it properly and the MicroSD card won't boot. Any smaller sized microSD cards work with any other kind of image, but the PiMIGA image is 32GB.

If I put the MicroSD card into an SD converter then plug that into my Omen laptop's native SD Card slot and write the image, it works and resulting MicroSD card boots and runs.

It seems to come down to the SD Card reader and whether it can handle cards larger than 16GB.
