Creating network device driver: multiple units?
Hi all,
Is it really necessary to have multiple units support in network device driver? Looking at 3c589 and Prism driver sources, can't help but notice they both are multiunit ones. What is the rationale behind having separate unit for every device opening? I can only think of a case where a TCP stack opens the device for usial work, and another application wants to access the device to gather statistics or sniff packets etc. Perhaps there are other device drivers sources worth taking a look at. |

You need multiple units if you have multiple network cards of the same type.
