Yeah I know, playing it with Amplifier is nicer, but you CAN hide the screen.
Just click on the "screen to front/back gadget" in the upper right corner of the screen.

And about the stream: On my system I had no problems with playing streams, only when I played mp3s from my CF-card I had problems with amplifier with USB enabled.

edit: I would try to use a "clean" amigaos installation. For example wb3.1 with only classact and amplifier as extras, and try it with that. For any wb-version higher than 3.1, you don't need classact. Also if you use a fastata-controller, try to reduce the PIO-mode your using. Maybe the PIO-mode being used is using too much CPU.

Edit2: Just checked on my system: which version of the mas-player software are you using?
V.1.3 doesn't show the "screen to back/front gadget". You should use V.1.4
You can download that one from here :
http://www.mas-player.de/cgi-bin/mas...e=mp3_amithlon

Thanks about the tip to close the player. The thing is that I don't like it much, that's why I also didn't invest much.

Yes, I'm using a FasAta... I was thinking in it now. It was now working with Pio 4, but ... as always it has given me a "Read attempt outside partition" after some fails booting with rare things happening. It uses to happen using high Pio modes; then it's just to leave the amiga to cool for a while and later you don't have the message or any problems (for a while a gain). If you insists you will have a (CF) HD you'll have to format again. I don't know if it's the Ide cable that gets too hot or what, but that's another story (thread). I will send you an mp3 that fails by PM for you to try.

Edit: And I forgot to tell that in the other miggy I don't have a fast ata to give that problems with those mp3's, but it's the same.

OK, I'll wait for your PM.

You should really try the clean install method. You use a CF-IDE adapter, so just make a clean install on a seperate CF-card. Really, it's the only way to tell if the problem is with your current WB-installation.

Edit: Ok, I tried them. It turns out the mp3s have a bitrate of 320 kbps. That's a very high quality.
I can't play them with my mas-evolution on my a1200-microbotics 030/50. I didn't even try on my a1200-aca 030/28.

I guess you should be glad that you can play them with the original masplayer-software.
Apparently amplifier puts just that little bit of extra load on the CPU.
Amigakit advises to use 192 kbps mp3s or less with the mas-evolution.

Thanks a lot. I knew it wasn't my setup but these mp3's. Lucky I discovered (and now can confirm) that

Edit: BTW is there a way to change the bitrate of the mp3's?

It is a bit rate problem, I had issues with my test drive, so lost all my test mp3's which played perfect. So I grabbed what I could quickly from my PC and put them on another test drive. First three, didn't even register in mas player and jumped all over the place. next ten were around 120 bitrate and played perfect.

Not sure on Miggy, but I normally use winamp for converting MP3's to different bitrate's.

What about the mas player (software player)?

Mozzerfan posted the latest version, 1.4 -Amigakit sends the older, 1.3g-, but I've just tried -using HighGFX with the Indi MKII- and clicking some options left me with a black screen while the music was still playing, and clicking on the right corner quits the music and hangs the mas player screen and all -you have to reboot-.

It must be just the Indi (guessing). With the 1.3g Mas player version I don't see the full screen with the Indi, so not all the menu, but doesn't seem to be an option to hide the player and return to WB.

Ah! I've tried again and both players play well my 320Kbps Mp3's, at least on the miggy I've just tried with an ACA 1230/56.

Blank screen normally happens when using kickstart 3.9.

Ah, too bad, it's such a nice piece of gear, I hope you find one to buy.
Anybody else then?

I guess one more necro won't hurt. I was wondering, how rare are these devices? I thought about adding MHI support to one of my ports, but it looks like no one builds or sells MAS Players anymore. I won't even mention more elusive cards (ahem, Prisma Megamix).

From what I remember, the MAS chip itself is obsolete and tricky to find, which would make it unlikely to be used for another production batch. However, more software using the MHI API wouldn't do any harm. With various expansions like the Warp accelerators and the ZZ9000 potentially supporting hardware decoding on board via their ARM coprocessors, having more software available might encourage the development of a driver.

I see, that explains it. Since WinUAE doesn't emulate any of these decoder chips, I'll postpone this until I get some supported hardware. In the meantime I'll look for some other solution.

Well, got mine!
(very big thanks to the seller! ;-) )

2 small problems:
– a constant hiss from the boot of the Amiga on the left speaker
– no stereo on the left speaker during MP3 playback. Looks like mono

The sound playback (ex: mod file via Hippoplayer) via Paula is ok and in stereo (except that I hear a little hiss in the background)

I've installed MHI and I play MP3 with AmigaAMP
http://aminet.net/package/driver/audio/mhimasplayer

Any idea?
Is there a special configuration to set in AmigaAMP?

Thanks for advance for your help!

It's been many years since I had my MAS on my A600, but iirc for AmigAMP it needed MHI driver.

@Tarzin

I know that's a stupid suggestion, but have you selected stereo playback in AmigaAMP mp3 decoding settings?

@vulture,
No stupid question ;-)
I don't know if there are specific settings for that.
With MHIDriver actived all parameters can't be modified in AmigaAMP.
I'll try to post screenshots from my configuration

One problem solved: for the constant hiss, I've changed the power suppply for the MAS Player. :-)

AmigaAMP supports MHI and Masplayer
