I guess they are placed in S-S or U-S. FPPrefs should be FullPalette.

To deactivate FullPalette:

1. Go to Tools -> Redit

2. Open the file S:Startup-sequence

3. Look for the line that says "SYS:Prefs/FPPrefs" and add a ";" at very start of it (always without quotes).

4. Save the file and reboot your machine.

To Deactivate Env-handler:

1. Go to Tools -> Redit

2. Open the file S:Startup-sequence

3. Look for the line that says "C:Env-Handler" and add a ";" at very start of it (always without quotes). Also add the following lines right below that one:

Assign ENV: RAM:Env
C:Copy ENVARC:~(#?.info) ENV: ALL QUIET

4. Save the file and reboot your machine.

another question - about redit on betterwb

have you noticed that sometimes opening a file or trying to type something in an opened file will cause a guru meditation when using redit?

No, I haven't. But you may try to increase its stack. maybe that helps to keep it sane and not crash and burn.

You can set the value in the Redit icon's information window.

Check if the crash happens only with (very) long lines or with text files greater then size x.

ive only used it for editing the default betterwb startup-sequence
which isnt big, and doesnt have any very long lines.

zshell also had a software failure when getting a dir of my pc work drive (containing about 100 files)

maybe i should use something like stackattack??
i think there was an option for that in betterwb, but i didnt choose it.
so how would i install it, and is it recommended?

BetterWB means that you use OS 3.1, right? I think StackAttack2 is a good choice. At least it shouldn't harm. For installation details see here: http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/StackAttack2

Do you get always the same Guru number? Next time right it down. Maybe the Guru number can lead to the causer.

zshell happens every time i try and get a directory of my work: (a pc folder added in winuae)

the zshell guru numbers change each time it crashes.
to be precise. zshell doesnt guru the machine instantly. when using zshell an error window appears in workbench saying to suspend or reboot the amiga.
when i click reboot i get the guru.

fwiw heres the last number i got

#80000006
task 00230880

zshell still crashes even if i use stackattack2

@liquidsmoke Please check your Redit version: all versions below 1.15 have a critical bug which can cause random gurus. Simply use current 2.0: http://www.kaiiv.de/redit/downloads/Redit.lha

Stacksize instead does not really matter for Redit: if it is too small, Redit will switch to a suitable stack. Former versions of Redit displayed a warning message in this case, which caused confusion on some users, that's why I removed the warning ;-)
