I've had this PC for well over a year now and it's been great! The only game that can slow it down is Metro 2033 with everything turned up to the max... I don't know of any PC at the moment that can run this game silky smooth and maxed out at the same time My next gaming PC is going to be built around the AMD Bulldozer next year |

I'm going to buy a new motherboard, CPU and Ram at some point becuase this system is starting to struggle the main bits are over 3 years old, still running a socket 939 motherboard so no room for CPU upgrade, my 4400+ isn't far off the best CPU available and for some reason 4800+ / AMD FX CPU's go for silly money.

The AMD Athlon II X4 645 (3.1ghz quad core) is a great budget CPU that is both fast and cool... It will run anything you throw at it Last edited by PowerPie5000; 15 November 2010 at 14:05. |

I'm Happy with my AMD7750+ / 4GB RAM / Nvida 9800 GTX =D
since the motherboard has an Nvida inbuilt (with physX as well) I get a little extra boost too =) If I find another 9800GTX I shall plumb them together for some overly pointless statement of FPS =D recently my brother got Gigabyte 870A UD3 motherboard AMD Phenom II 1055T (6core / 9mb cache) 8GB (4*2048) Dual Chan XMS RAM 1333 DDR3 (8,8,8,22) ATI HD6870 1GB GFX 1 GB Samsung Sata 2 HD 32MB Cache 1 Samsung DVDRW DL SATA optical drive 700 watt PSU XTC Gaming Case Total (inc postage / vat) £627.80 - he ordered it yesterday... while round my house =) We were discussing an i7 core cpu - however we have been able to build an entire rig for that price |

Sounds like a beast of a system Mr Zee, when I order my Mobo, AMD 965 & 4gb I'm tempted to grab another GTX260 as well for some silly FPS
Wonder if I'd hit 999 in some Quake 3 engined game like SOF2 Sod it, maybe I'll get another 3 screens at the same time 4x 22in Samsung Synchmasters What a command centre Also tempted to get a 64gb SSD for my Windoze drive... |

@PowerPie
at the moment the top-end i7 980's are nearly twice the performance of the Phenom II series - this is compounded with better memory bandwidth - however at 3.5 times the price - its not really cost-effective. A Top end Intel Core i7 980x Extreme (Gulftown 32nm), 6 Cores, 3.33GHz, QPI 6.4GT/s, 12MB Cache, 130W, Retail box = £728 on its own - hence the entire machine above and you get £100 change!! I believe that a top-end AMD solution comprising of AMD 1090T Black (OC) edition (6 cores / 9MB cache) @3.2Ghz 8GB of 1666Mhz DDR3 in dual chan mode 2x Nvidia GTX480's will have a lot to say against the price and performance of an i7 980 build 3DMark 2006 highest benches (44,xxx) comprise of ASUS Extreme Motherboard Intel i7 980 6GB RAM Radeon 5870 the entire top 20 have this build, I am please the machine I built over two years ago for under £250 attains 10,581 in 3DMark2006 - so thats a YAY! So I chose for the Phenom2 also, and I've not had any complaints yet. What I got is an efficient and powerful little devil (quad core) that produces only a minor amount of heat under load. Brilliant. |

Totally depends on the 'tempo' in the game. A flight sim could be 5 fps and still fun, while F1GP at the same rate is NOT Single player shooter, 30+, while in multiplayer against good competition, 75 fps becomes boring very fast.

My fav 1st person shooter on the Amiga - ADOOM - runs with somewhat between 10-20 fps depending on the size, action, motion, detail level, number of objects currently visible on the screen. This is quite playable and still fun for me.

Yeah well when first playing doom I was more than happy running it at 30 FPS on my 486DX33 with occasional bog-downs Before that I was only too happy playing it in low resolution mode on a 386. It didn't matter - you could play Doom!

Y'all
am i right in thinking film is about 24fps? I start to get p#ssed at less than 30-20fps. My rig runs COD WaW at 200+fps and I still suck, where as the xbox can get around 65-70fps for cod waw [ i am sure i read this recently] and i own go figure ;( my gaming has improved no end with a phatt 5meg upload though PZ Last edited by pubzombie; 29 June 2011 at 10:53.
