A600 IDE problems :(

My A600 has stopped booting from the IDE port.

I get a faint red flicker and then a bright red flicker from the CF adapter then nothing, it then boots to the insert disk screen.

The CF adapter, card and cable all work in my A1200.

I'm using KS3.1.

Holding both mouse buttons on boot only shows CC0: & DF0:

I have removed the board from the metal shield to check for damaged tracks but I have found nothing.

There are no bent pins and everything looks OK.

What controls the IDE? Caps, Chip?

Any ideas welcome.

Gayle (U5) is the main chip for IDE so I'd check around that area.
Do you have an SRAM card for PCMCIA? If so, then you could boot on a WB disk and see if it finds the memory, since CC0 is also handled by Gayle.

Yeah, anyone throwing out Amiga hardware, even broken hardware, should be revoked the right to ever owning Amiga stuff again.
I've only thrown out a pile of broken DD floppies but they are beyond repair anyway..

There's plenty of people out there who can use the parts and have the skills to repair it.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I thought hat was better than starting yet another one.

I'm getting what seems to be the same issue.

I'm using the mSATA to 2.5" 5v adapter, as in Zetr0s thread. It seems that sometimes it will boot, but it locks up during disk reads sometimes, even if trying to read a 3.5" disk, and then if I do a soft-reset, bam, no HDD, I get the insert disk kickstart screen, and it doesn't even show in the early startup menu, I only get DF0 and CC0.

Sometimes the Disk light comes on and stays on, other times it's unlight and stays unlit.

I've tried the drive in the 2.5" to USB adapter and WinUAE booted up first go from it, no dramas.

Should I go looking for another A600, or would it be worth ordering a replacement 2.5" ribbon cable and waiting 6 weeks for it to arrive (everything takes at least a week to arrive here, and if it's from overseas, usually at least a month).

It's really frustrating, as I received my PCMCIA CF adapter today and was looking forward to actually using my A600, but it doesn't want to play ball it seems.

Smells capacitors problems, either from PSU or mainboard.

Did you replace them ?

10uf cap leaking next to hdd socket can easily eat away pins close to pcb, try with finger if they are not loose, wobbly
