I never emulated the C64 on the Amiga. What is the experience like? Do you need an accelerator to get a good experience?

I have A64 but it seems you already have it. It comes with a parallel port thing to connect a 1541 drive, which sould be the same thing as the cable sold by amiga shops.
About what is needed to have a nice C64 inside an Amiga : a 68060@50 no less, a Vampire better. SIDBlaster with latest playSID library helps with Magic64 and Frodo and a Zorro SID board helps with Frodo (unless it gets also playsid.library support and then it will work with Magic64). |

at least a 68030 to have a 70% (as speed) emulation good with 68040, as sometime you need to limit the speed itself having Fast RAM, or NTSC instead of PAL also helps this with both Magic64 and Frodo A64 is faster, something is working good also on 68020 but has the worst compatibility Vice require a monster machine i have read that the Readysoft one should behave decently also with a 68020, but has been the first released, long time before many of these mentioned here Last edited by kremiso; 05 January 2024 at 16:16. |

@kremiso can you find a stable emulator or specific config with magic c64 to play zorro c64 perfectly?
Whatever I try with magic64 it's on the slower side and has gfx issues |

iirc it is also slow with Frodo, but the gfx is ok; on A64 the music plays perfect on main menu also on 020, but ingame the color palette is strangely different; also some gfx was not right iirc, btw faster ill check again for an overall best setting |

I have a T64 file as a ROM file. It is launched by Magic64, i can pass the crack, then i come on text screens about the game and instructions. It asks for a joystick to port 1 of the C64, which i did, then use F7 to start, but i just keep cycling the text screens. Last edited by Calabazam; 06 January 2024 at 00:03. |

Thanks. Indeed Ctrl seems to help to pass all those screens.
The game is working at steady 99% FPS on my setup (A4000/68060-50/ZZ9000) using ZZ9000 RTG in 320*256 8 bits direct access with ratio 1/2 and speed limit, and sound through playsid.library which outputs through my SIDBlaster. That's the usual setup i use on the A4000. On the 1200 with Vampire V2, i use ratio 1/1 and software SID with playSID.library and ReSID and it is usually faster than the A4000 (not tested with this game so far). I have a few graphic glitches in the lower part of the screen but nothing serious. I don't know how that game should normally look but it is similar to the screenshots from the website i got the ROM from. Music seems quite nice. Actually, i have checked longplay video from Youtube and game here is similar speedwise and color wise. Seems fine with Magic64 on real hardware. Last edited by Calabazam; 06 January 2024 at 00:41. |

i have taken also an adf in the Tosec/Applications this emulator seems to mandatory require C64 drive/s, connected with an adaptator --- about the Readysoft emulator, i think this is the first 1.0 version : http://ftp2.grandis.nu/turransearch/...0&httplinks=on but i cannot reach to make it work here used a couple of old ocs configs, but no luck yet wondering if required some dongle/hw adapter to work? |

the line glitch seems desappearing 'unticking' the smart refresh into the graphics submenu seems doing greatly here with 68030, runned in Fast RAM, and pushed at 60Hz oh, i think the Magic64 version i have here has a time limit, it is saying to register the product; i got it from Aminet |

I think your emulation setup is not on par with real hardware. I find impossible to play most games on such a weak CPU with Magic64. 68060 is the minimum, and still not enough for perfect results for demanding games such as R-Type (will often drop to 80% FPS with my above setup). As for Zorro which seems to be a simple game, unfortunately i don't have any real 68030 setup ready for testing right now but i migh try and report in a few weeks with another computer located elsewhere.
Thanks for the tip about that glitch (which appears only on the lower part of the screen for me), will try it later on the A4000. EDIT : you're right, smart refesh unticked (rafraichissement + in my french localized version) remove the glitch totally. Last edited by Calabazam; 06 January 2024 at 23:29. |

emulation on emulation is surely not the best way, something could be boosted indeed i can share some preload tests, if you want try on your hardware and evaluate for differences what's your exact config? cpu, ram and kickstart? --- EDIT tomorrow ill check for r-type, yes that one should require a better config also emulated Last edited by kremiso; 06 January 2024 at 23:41. |

Yes glitch is removed by the unticked option as i edited in my previous post.
My base config is an A4000D with KS3.1 OS 3.1 sporting Cyberstorm MK2 68060@50 with 128 MB onboard + 16 MB from the mobo. But i also have a SIDBlaster connected to my Deneb to use a SID (XSid boost in 8580 mode in my case) which is operated by Magic64 through latest updated playSID.library. Second config to emulate C64 is A1200 KS 3.1 OS 3.1 (no CoffinOS or other premade disto but my own installation of OS3.1 - most libs in 68060 version as i upgraded from a Blizzard 1260 straight to the Vampire V2) with Vampire V1200 v2 and its 128 MB FAST. This one plays SID sound through reSID included in the latest playSID.library, which is not a problem thanks to the extra power of the Vampire V2. This second setup has no speed issue for C64 emulation, everything is working at 100% speed. There are a few games i can't launch at all though, like Ultima VI which appears to not load at all with Magic64. In the next months, i am planning to add a 1541 drive to my A4000 setup with a parallel cable and try to use it with the different emulators (for now i don't think that Magic64 could use a real drive but Frodo does). |

indeed two fat systems
interesting that the emulator is it working faster on the A1200 one, there are differences between the type of RAM or both machines have Fast? i ask cause on emulation there is a good speed increase running the emulator in Fast instead of Chip lovely the idea to add a drive if you know other titles that doesnt work, you can post them here Last edited by kremiso; 07 January 2024 at 00:10. |
