Yes, you can.

But you'll need a lot of 3rd part software to be able to do this (in both sides: pc and Amiga).

Well first of all what version of kickstart you have in your A500? 1.3?

PC2Amiga needs 2.x to run. Also the windows client won't work with Win2000/XP not to mention Vista as it's only Win9x compatible.

The best program for transfer archives to and from the Amiga (ANY AMIGA) is Cloanto's AExplorer.

It uses a 7-wires serial cable and do marvels for you. You can buy it from Amigakit, too.

In that case unless you upgrade to 2.x you won't be able to use PC2Amiga.

You could always slightly modify the cable and go with Paradise instead as it works well with 1.3 and can be made WinXP compatible.

You'd have to rewire the cable to use it with Paradise. Not that difficult. A bit of soldering and you're good to go.

I wouldn't say it's easier... but pretty much the only way you can use the parallel port to transfer files between a 1.3 kickstart Amiga and PC.

And it's a lot quicker than Amiga Explorer... and free

IceMan, do you currently have any way to transfer files to your A500?

The reason I ask is because ppill has assumed you know that Paradise requires a program to be run on the Amiga side before it can be used to transfer files.

With your cable and hardware the only option is APCComm, the bad news is that it is a Linux program that is quite difficult to setup and it still requires a program to be transferred to the Amiga before you can use it.

Amiga Explorer with a suitable serial null modem cable requires no prior setup on the Amiga side for it to work all setup is done from Windows, that is why rkauer suggested it.

That's not entirely true. If memory serves me correctly you still need to have a working copy of the Workbench disk (OK that's a no-brainer), adjust the serial settings and run the 'type' command in Shell. So you still need to tinker with the Amiga to transfer the initial files over.

And I totally forgot about Appcomm and it's a part my Hombre project. Duh...

Probably because I never got it work. I guess my Linux skills are not that great.

Actually it would be good idea to ask someone from Portugal on this forum to send IceMan a copy of Hombre. That would give him much more options to choose from.

There are a few people from Portugal hanging around EAB. I'm sure someone would be willing to help you out with the Hombre disk.

you were quicker.

And it's more a collection of tools crammed to a disk rather then a single tool.

Hi _-IceMan-_

you could write a PM to Yotoxionomai. He lives in Portugal and is a really nice guy I think he might be able to help you with the Hombre disk and transferring the disk images to your Amiga

Not unless you have a null-modem cable (which you don't) that connects to the serial ports of both machines. Software that enables you to read PC formatted disks was bundled with AmigaOS 2.1 and up.
