At the end of stage 4 don't jump over this column:

There's nothing and you'll have to restart the game...

Thanks for the tip john

Pressing my keyboard, I found that "ESC" pauses the game. Then you can quit with "Q" or continue with "fire" button.

During game, pressing "C" display some information regarding your position.

Didn't find any 'suicide' key to restart from the last 'check point'.
@phx, don't know if you are looking at this thread, but is there any 'suicide' key ?

Finished. Now I just have to do it again without passwords...

Easy game, but you have to stay focussed. Nice graphics with perfect 50fps scrolling and fun gameplay.

Would've preferred if Eric fought with his sword instead of throwing a Gadoken though:

You'll enjoy it, it's very accessible.

@malko: Good to know about 'C'. A suicide key shouldn't be needed as the end of 1-4 seems to be the only place where you can get stuck.

This game may be as "easy" as Treasure Island Dizzy.
Maybe counting the remaining lives at the end of the game should be considered.

Okay, we decided to award 100 points per remaining life at the end which is once you enter the portal of stage 4 of world 3 (forest):

As long as you don't press fire you can take a screenshot here.

Found it : I inadvertently pressed the "Page Down" key (which brings up the internal debugger)

John (& others) : While training the game, were you able to get all the shields here, on level 2, stage 3 (code : KI8G) ?

No, I couldn't jump over the gate. Guess you'd have to lose a life to collect both but that's not worth it due to our bonus rule.

Btw., you can't kill enemies while airborne, can you?

P.S. No points for finding the Debug mode, but here's a thumbs up at least:

Same for me, can't jump over the door.
And like you, I didn't manage to kill enemies while airborne. But I think it was not initially planned as there is no "spell" (gadoken) coming out of the fist.

And sad for the "no point" but thanks for the "thumb up"

Good, then some enemies are just hazards to be avoided.

Agreed. Sword + power ups + more foe variety + end of level bosses = Celtic Hearts II

I have to say I am bizarrely enjoying the music!

18'800 = 18'600 + (2 * 100)

Edit: forgot to mention but I have missed some shields due to a falling platform. So higher score can be achieved.

^ Nice. Now it's all about staying alive. Good that there's no time limit.

Yeah the music is not bad.

Thanks to the provided source code incl. assets (see link in first post under Download) anyone with some dedication could do a Celtic Hearts sequel or different game based on this really solid engine.

...and what a solid engine it is. It plays really nicely.

Another cool inclusion (if someone were to pick it up as a sequel project) would be to offer a starting character of Elf, Wizard, Warrior or Dwarf; different agility and weapon, almost Gauntlet style. And then weapon ups could give you 4/5 variants on their characters attack.

I was also thinking of a two player (split screen!?) where it's a speed run!

^ Good ideas, I'll gladly be playtester if you make it.

Reached the forest with 10 lives, then all went downhill.
Well, it is easy, but you really must stay focused all the time.
