I don't want to be the cause of more arguments, but...
I've noticed that a certain reviewer cursed somewhat by a certain game/series has just posted a long story about the whole deal, complete with a timeline detailing a lot of stuff.
Would've posted this in the thread below, but well, you know... |

Yeah, I think he seems to be pretty keen on telling everyone what he thinks about Kick Off. Perhaps if he himself quitted saying that KO is shite, those "hysterical Kick Off fans" might not get so pissed... Heh.

In 8bits I ever preferred EmlynHughes over MicroproseSoccer.
In 16 bits I ever preferred KickOff games over SensibleSoccer. Nowadays I prefer Goal! to every 3d soccer game (specially boring Fifa´s) Also I preferred CannonFodder1 over CannonFodder2 (on which this Stuart participed) |

What I meant was that the guy seems to argue too much in black or white. In the other thread, I don't think he had a single good thing to say about KO... I mean, just because he thinks it's not as good as SWOS. Then he's gotta hate KO. Kick Off had several flaws that SWOS didn't, but nontheless it's a classic game. I just think he should soften his attitude slightly... It seems pretty pointless to me to argue about which is the "best" because although they both are soccer games they're still quite different and both have their fans. Neither one is shite and neither one is the best ever.

You say neither one is shite, but I consider Kick Off (and more so Kick Off 2) to be one of the worst football games I've ever played-- Believe me, I've played it. You say neither one is the best ever, and that's a very sweeping statement. I believe SWOS is the best football game ever. Who is right? Technically neither of us, and both of us. At the risk of 'crossing borders' I'm beginning to feel where this guy (Stuart Campbell) is coming from. Although his thread in that CM forum was created a little hastily, he didn't attack anyone unless provoked as far as I can tell and looking back through other forums and correspondence it seems to be that's he's the one being attacked. As he said, he's never personally attacked Dino Dini and as far as I'm concerned, journalism is about the right to express an opinion, which he did and got flamed for. It just so happened he did it in a relatively popular Amiga magazine to the audience of a few zealots who had a seriously unhealthy obsession for that game. If you don't concur with a magazines' reviews, you change magazine. That's why there's a choice on offer. Last edited by P-J; 15 January 2004 at 00:06. |

Ok.
I've got fever tonight, so I gotta admit that I can't think very clearly. However, I guess what I wanted to say was probably: I don't like his attitude. But that's just MY opinion Now I gotta sleep and get better from this fucking cold, my throat's killing me. |

If I do have one problem with Stu Cambell's site,it's regarding the info on Microprose Soccer. Yes, he got the intial release on C64 right, but why the heck does he relate to review scores in Crash & Your Sinclair, which I'd understand to be Speccy reviews?
Surely, Zzap! & C.U. would've been a tad more relevant, in those days Jon Hare & Chris Yates were a 2 man outfit for the most part,(Apart from the brilliant Martin Galway assisting in the sonics for their stuff), & only programmed for the C64. |

Why don't you try to attend any KO2 tournaments in England then? The UK championships will take place in May, probably in Nottingham. You don't have to play, you can just pop in, say hello and have a few pints with the guys. |
