WHDload Installed Sensible World Of Soccer Slowdown on 060 CPUs

Hi

I attempted to play this game on my A4000 060 setup but it runs like shit. I do have an A1200 030 so its not a fatal problem but just wondering whether this game can be made to run properly when installed with WHDload on an Amiga with a 060 cpu. The docs says it can, but it blatently doesnt. Anyone have the same issues?

Regards

Hi!

Try adding the tool type 'cache' that sorted out the slowdown problems with my 030

Steve.

Argh that sucks, well hopefully someone can help you out!

Its a pretty popular game so it must have options to run well on 060's

Steve.

I think Codetapper (hi Ian) told me that chip access on the 060 is pretty poor so certain things that use it will run much better on an 030 for instance.

(Get out clause) I think that was pretty much what he said.

As i have the same problem with my BPPC/040, i revive the thread. Are there any possibilities that someone makes a new slave that will work with certain setups. I noticed that a lot of people love this game (for me it was the reason to take my 1200 out of the closet 10 years ago) but since they have upgraded to 040/060 they can't run it in a decent way. Is there any solution?

Yeah, i'm working on it now so the game code runs in fast mem instead of chip mem which I think is causing the problems.

If that doesn't work (which I suspect it will) i'll be recoding all the problem blitter routines to use the processor instead.

That is REALLY GREAT NEWS indeed!! Please let us know as soon as you have something ready to test. I was going to pimp an A600 only for playing SWOS (from HD, no floppies) but it seems i'm running out of space in the house so only my already heavily pimped A1200 has to stay and MUST run SWOS well. Personally i would be grateful if you could succeed in this project.

I hope you will!! I mean WE all hope you will, all the dedicated SWOS fans. But wouldn't it better for you to concentrate only on one or two versions, let's say the most complete of all which is "SWOS 96-97". I understand that there are a lot of revisions and versions but the one you'll manage to make it work with the 040/060 boards will be the one that people will use. Anyway, in case you need any kind of help, at least something that could be done by someone with no programming skills, here we are! Keep us posted man!

I have no idea which are the more popular versions of SWOS, and quite simply, if I don't offer support for them all, i'll get bug reports for the ones I didn't support.

I may just tackle one for the moment to ensure it works and once beta testing is over i'll do the rest.

It'll probably be a separate slave for faster processors, otherwise it will needlessly raise the ram requirements for owners of 'lesser' machines.

Guys this is working fine with my Blizzard 1260 using the tool type 'cache' no slowdown at all, smooth as silk

I never tried on my 060 before today, without the tooltype 'cache' its slow and jumpy. With it added, runs perfect.

Sorry but i have tried everything with my PPC/040 and it plays awfully slow. Maybe you could point me out to the version that works well for you and see if i can do anything with it.

Well yesterday I was playing the 96/97 version, it was part of the pre installed pack downloaded from KG's site.

I'm getting a PPC/060 this week so I'll try it on that.

Steve.

@Galahad/FLT
Could i be your bitch as well? I would love to test any "new" tweaked version. I have a PPC/040 as stated before. I also have 15 full years of (almost) everyday SWOS experience. Does this count?

I'm actually working on it now.

Will concentrate on stopping the ingame slowdown, load/save will not work properly, but i'll do that after the slowdowns are fixed.
