OS 3.9 GUI Improvements

Is there any real advantage to installing any of the "standard" GUI improvements such as VisualPrefs, Scalos and NewIcons on OS 3.9?

Obviously, programs such as Picasso96 and MUI are a must if you want more than 256 colours and to run tha majority of apps.

I'm asking this because I've recently purchased 3.9 and upgraded from 3.1 where I was running VisualPrefs, NewIcons, Scalos, MUI and Picasso96 and I'm wanting to get a good looking 3.9 desktop.

What do people on here recommend I install on top of my 3.9 and why?

Cheers,

Darrell

Why now....Keropi! You have a nice graphics card there and no VisualPrefs installed? I installed it and am very happy with it. It makes a great looking GUI with different themes (still using XP theme, don't shoot me).

Scalos is maybe the most functionality-adding GUI enhancement, it adds real features to the user. I haven't got it since i have problems with it (WB hang).

What's cgx4? Is it an alternative to Picasso96?

@redneon: if p96 works OK with your setup, keep it... it is excellent
CyberGraphX is another rtg system, like p96... I had some p96 probs and I
switched to cgx version4

@Bamiga2002: I haven't tried visual prefs, does it take many resources?

@wlcina: Look at my thread "My first own computer" ... Truing to run on Amiga
and/or liking Quake has nothing to do with what u say

Well depends on what theme you use or if you use one at all. It won't take resources if you don't make any adjustments to it, like adding patterns etc. it depends on you, like in MUI.

I thought MUI was just an object library for building interfaces (like GTK in Linux or Windows.Forms in Windows)? I didn't think it actually changed the look of anything.

Don't install much programs on the Amiga especially in one that runs on >=OS3.5. MUI, P96/CGX4, kingon, MCX. That's all I have there and my system is very stable.
