US VXL30 on a PAL A500?
Hi,
Not sure if I'm asking this correctly. I have a VXL30 accelerator board with extra memory. I am wanting to put that in a known A500 PAL computer. Am I going to have problems with it due to the PAL configuration? Thanks |

nope - the only problem you might face is game-compatability issue.

I don't think you would even hsve a problem with games. If you have the 32 bit ram that accompanies the vxl then there is a build in rom switcher. Put the 3.1 rom on the memory board and leave a 1.3 rom on the motherboard. Using the setvxl ommand you can switch between the two roms as well between the 68000 and 68030. With the 3.1 roms, the early boot menu (both mouse buttons pressed at powerup) you can switch between pal or ntsc. There is nothing on the vxl that determines pal vs ntsc. Reference to the pal chips on the vxl are just the control for the vxl nothing to do with the two video standards.

@source
some games will run too fast, others may not run at all with an 030 - especially if they have been hard-coded for the 68000 cpu. we are talking very old games though. |

But I thought if you ran the command
> Setvxl 68000 nointer It would boot using the 68000 instead of the 030 assuming that you placed the 68000 back on the vxl. |

ahhh, well yes that would work for sure, but thats assuming that command was used and then rebooted.
but running the 030 will have some old legacy game issues... but to be honest for those games that run to fast and those that dont run at-all its not worth the bother to even mention it LOL. |

The vxl does work quite well and it was my major system that I used through university and vet college. I had it in my A2000. I only had a reduction in activity when I retired it for a 4000T
