Atari ST Emulator for the Amiga

I know for a FACT one existed, because I was able to play Trantor the ST version on my A5oo, albeit very very slowly!!!

So, does anyone know of an ST emulator in existence?

There exists a couple. The ones I remember from back in the day were Chameleon (I & II) and Medusa. My memory is real cloudy now, but I believe I had success with Medusa. Then there was ST4Amiga, which I never really got around to playing with, but it was last updated in (I think) 1995 and requires 68000.

Cheers.... I'm sure I remember a full colour version!

Typical that Super Sprint doesn't like to be booted thru GEM.

So, off to try another ST Game now to see what that will do.

This would be a perfect project for WHDLoad, but the Atari uses the TRAP instruction, which WHDLoad can get quite picky about

I'll try sommat else.

Yeah, I remember full colour as well. I remember at the time I first tried them (probably Medusa, but I just don't remember anymore) all I could find was PD stuff and I was really anxious to see a game actually working in it on my mere A500. That Basketball Sam & Ed game worked, as well as some other edu-type games. Then I rushed out and called my ST friends and told them the emulator ran everything.

Important: The program has to be installed from drive df0: !!!!!

Upgrade Kunden können das TOS weiterhin von Diskette nachladen.
Nach dem Start von CHAMÄLEON II wird zuerst geprüft, ob ein ROM-Modul
vorhanden ist, wenn nicht wird nach der Betriebssystemdiskette
gefragt, wie von der ersten Version bekannt.


TOS 1.0 und Overscan!

Wenn Sie TOS 1.0 von der Diskette nachladen, kann leider der
ATARI-Overscanmodus nicht genutzt werden. TOS 1.0 kann nur mit einer
Maximalauflösung von 640 * 400 Pixel reibungslos arbeiten. Erst ab
TOS 1.2 werden Großbildschirmfähigkeiten unterstützt.

Wenn Sie einen OMTI-Controller besitzen, können Sie Ihren Treiber
selbst konfigurieren. Sollten Sie eine COMBITEC_HD20 oder
Message AHD40 Ihr Eigen nennen, könne Sie auf einen der bereits
bestehenden gleichnamigen Omti-Treiber zurückgreifen.

OMTI.HDD - ein Dummy-Treiber, der zum Konfigurieren genutzt
werden kann (Programm CONF).

Chamway.HDD - ist der Name des Harddisk-Treibers für alle
A.L.F. 2 SCSI, A.L.F. 2 SCSI professional,
A.L.F. 3 und Oktagon 500 Festplatten-Kontroller.

Leider hat der ALF-Festplattentreiber noch den Fehler, daß nur ein
ST gebootet werden kann. Daher haben wir zusätzlich noch den

ALF3.HDD beigelegt, der aber leider nur mit ALF3 Festplattencontrollern

zusammenarbeitet, dies aber einwandfrei.


KRONOS.HDD - Treiber für Next Generation SCSI 2 Kontroller.

* Hinweise zur Benutzung der BOIL3_???.HDD Treiber *

Für alle FSE - Kunden befinden sich die Chamäleon II - Festplattentreiber
für die entsprechenden BOIL3 - CH, CHS bzw. CHA - Modelle. Diese sind:

BOIL3_0xx.HDD für alle CH Modelle mit Omti - Kontroller
(Amiga 500 / 1000).

BOIL3_100.HDD für die CHA - AT Modelle (Amiga 500 / 1000).

BOIL3_201.HDD für CHS Festplatten - Systeme.
BOIL3_202.HDD für CHS Wechselplatten - Systeme.

Wenn Sie nicht genau wissen, welcher Treiber für Sie der richtige ist,
dann sehen Sie im 'devs' - Ordner Ihrer BOIL3 - Diskette nach. Dort
befinden sich eine oder maximal zwei Dateien, die 'NucleusXXX.device'
heißen, wobei 'XXX' für eine dreistellige Zahl steht. Anhand dieser
Zahl können Sie eine sichere Auswahl des richtigen Treibers treffen:

Nucleus000.device bis Nucleus099.device -> BOIL3_0xx.HDD
Nucleus100.device -> BOIL3_100.HDD
Nucleus201.device -> BOIL3_201.HDD
Nucleus202.device -> BOIL3_202.HDD

Die Treiber sind so ausgelegt, daß eine versehentlich falsche Auswahl
ohne negative Auswirkungen bleibt, mit Ausnahme der, daß Sie auf der
Atari - Seite nicht auf Ihre Platte zugreifen können.

Beachten Sie bitte die Hinweise in Ihrer Anleitung zu Chamäleon II,
was die Neupartitionierung Ihrer Festplatte angeht. Gehen Sie mit
'BOILInstall' bitte so vor:

1. Gehen Sie bis zum Fenster 'Partitionieren'.

2. Wenn alles belegt ist, schaffen Sie Platz durch Anklicken
einer Partition und anschließendes 'Löschen'.

3. Geben Sie als Name 'CHAM_C' bis 'CHAM_N' ein,
je nach gewünschter Laufwerksbezeichnung 'C' bis 'N'
auf Atari - Seite.

4. Wählen Sie unter 'Puffer' den kleinsten möglichen Wert = 5.

5. Machen Sie die Partition 'nicht bootfähig'. Ihr Amiga kann
von einer Chamäleon - Partition nicht booten, er wird dies
dann auch nicht versuchen. Machen Sie die Partition nicht
'Blind', sie muß auf der Amiga - Seite angemeldet sein,
um vom Emulator erkannt zu werden.

6. Wenn Sie Ihre Platte sowohl auf Amiga- als auch auf Atari-
Seite benutzen wollen und bereits 'FFS' Partitionen ange-
meldet haben, verwenden Sie auch für die Chamäleon - Parti-
tionen 'FFS'. Dies kostet keinen zusätzlichen Speicherplatz,
hat jedoch den Vorteil, daß das 'FFS' die für es unformatierte
Partition erheblich schneller erkennt und den Bootvorgang des
Amiga nicht unnötig verzögert.

6. Bestimmen Sie die Größe der Partition im 'MByte' - Eingabefeld.
Geben Sie dort maximal '16' ein, kleinere Werte sind natürlich
möglich. Beachten Sie, daß Eingaben eventuell aufgerundet
werden, also auf '16.1' MByte oder ähnlich. Geben Sie dann
einen geringfügig kleineren Wert als '16'

Other than that, I have absolutely no bloody clue as to how to get this thing up and running.

St4Amiga was a "joke" emulator wasnt it?
But this Chameleon and Medusa i have heard of...i wonder why they werent more freely available at the time

I thought ST4Amiga was a real emulator, seeing as how many updates it kept getting. I just never got around to messing with it. There is another (on Aminet) that is a joke ST emulator.

Chameleon and Medusa I grabbed off pirate boards, but they were buried in the fray of games uploads and largely ignored by most leechers and couriers. I believe they were probably only released in Germany, but don't quote me on that. I'll check later and see if I have any scans of the original packaging.

Honestly, I can't remember. Maybe I'll fire them up tonight and see if I can remember what I did to get it to work before.

Guys i remember an st emulator that needed two disk drives to function! i cannot remember the name of it tho
