Tagging EAB users in posts.

Similar to tagging someone of FB.
Is this possible? Would it be useful?

Ive seen something similar on another forum, someone quotes you or writes your nick and you get a noitification: "You have been mentioned" with a link. Or "You have been quoted" etc.. Also if you type a users name in a post it creates a link to their profile.

If not like that explain further how you would want it to work?

Of those features, the only one which would be of any use to me is the link to a member's profile created when their user name is mentioned. That's not a bad idea at all.

However, I'd have to be a particularly vain kind of person to want notifying every time I was either quoted or mentioned in the forums, so I will definitely be looking to disable this one if it's ever implemented.

I was more thinking it would be nice to tag someone in a post if you particularly wanted them to see it if you thought it was relevant to them or if they could help, I wasn't thinking of anyone ever wanting to tag me in a post, hehe.

If that's the sort of thing you have in mind, then perhaps it could be implemented with a new BBcode definition, for occasional use only when you need it.

bbcode tagging will work, and just link to the users profile, but that's all it will do, it would be a far to complex script to make it notify each and every user of every mention.

This is the bbcode:-
Quote:
<a href="member.php?username={param}">{param}</a>
Besides, I for one wouldn't like to be notified of every single person that mentions my nick or quotes me somewhere on the board, it could be like mass spamming via pm because I'm so popular

Yes, for occasional use.

Haha! I'm sure there could be an option to turn off the notifications to prevent all this spamming you'd receive.

Lol seuden

Anyway, the bbcode is there for rck if he wants to implement it, but we'll have to think of an icon to use for it, or we'd need to remember the tags RCK gives us to use.

I don't think it needs to auto tag when someone is mentioned just an option for a member to tag another member. Just to clarify.

The problem with http://eab.abime.net/member.php?username=RCK instead of http://eab.abime.net/member.php?u=1 is that your link won't work anymore it the member account is renamed
This will lead to internal invalid links.

Send a message via MSN to alkis21
Can I have my avatar automatically change to this picture if nobody mentions me for a month?

It can be a good idea, but if we want our member can choose to have or not the notifications, I need to buy the PRO version of this plugin, and I don't have $80 for this

I think the LITE version should be enough? It does notifications... You just have to write the member manually (PRO autocompletes).

I read that users can't opt-out from notifications in lite version, and I don't want to force this
