Wow.
For some reason tonight i decided to type in "Amiga Resident Evil" into google and found several links... Brings back memories... I was "Magic Rabbit" back in 1998. I had just got a PC for college and got the awesome Resident evil for it. I then discovered I could take screen captures and use the sound files on the CD. I had a friend who made a bet that I couldnt get it working on the Amiga for some reason. I can't remember specifics but I was always into trying creative things back then so started making this on the Amiga. I'm the first to admit its not that great. It used pretty simple programming and only took me a week or two from start to finish. I never really intended to get any further than I did because of combat. I had actually re-programmed that whole part of the game so the cut scenes where animations and the zombie moved about. But I came to realise it was a lost cause so I gave up. Shortly after I was contacted by Capcom who had seen my work and wanted to discuss a possibility that I could help with an Amiga version. I was not that good of a programmer and I knew I couldnt really work on a real Amiga version and lastly my parents wanted me to stay at college so I declined - nothing after that ever happened with an Amiga version anyway (to my knowledge). So there you have it.. Im just surprised people are still talking about it now, I even found it on youtube at: [ Show youtube player ] Just thought id add my comments |

@Redsquirrel
Thanks for the extra info, I bet you must of been a little excited that capcom contacted you. I know i would of been. Alas i totaly believe as you discovered that a basic AGA 020 even with a few extra megs of fast ram couldn't do what the game deserved, however I do believe that an 030 with gfx card or 040+ with AGA or better could do a passable game. This would be one of THOSE games i would love to remake for the Amiga, it is indeed a fantastic (and zombie cheesy) classic game! (i have all of the RE's on the PSX and PS2 ) Again thanks for the version you did, it did indeed make me chuckle as it reminded me of the painfully bad acting on the PSX/PC versions... ahhh such memories... BTW Welcome to the EAB, theres plenty of mischief to get upto around here... so please, take some time, kick back and relax, and enjoy the chocolate coated yummyness of retro-dom that this fair board provides |

Cheers =) I plan to stick around a bit, i miss my old amiga days ALOT!
I was really excited when capcom contacted me, but also I was a bit worried because I thought they would not be happy with me basically trying to copy their game to another format! I was pretty careful on what I said, but not once did they tell me they would get me in trouble for making it or anything like that. Do I wish I had said I would help? Maybe. I just don't think an Amiga version would have been that viable, especially as you say Zetr0 - a more powerful amiga would have been required - something only die hard amiga users had back in 1997/98. Resident Evil is a great series, RE4 is in my top 3 best games =) |

fraid not =(
Back in 2002 or so, i opened my A1200 to show a mate how a HD fits in the Amiga and in doing so killed the drive. I was so upset (sad i know) but i had hundreds of megs of animations and programs and games i had been working on. So yeah I lost all that stuff. I dont even think i backed it up to floppy disc. Thankfully i did upload a few of my creations to aminet so they are still around, although one of my programs that I was getting commisioned for by some educational company got lost.. i was a bit sad about that cos i spent months working on it, but the deal never went through (this was back in 98). |
