Sound problem with WinUAE 1.4.3...
All right, I have a slight sound problem: in two CD32 games, The Clue and Pinball Illusions, I have a . . . well, sound stutter (glitch) when the CD is about to be read. In The Clue, it happens in introductory movie, when several characters are having a conversation, and sound jumps and stutters, and in Pinball Illusions it happens when new part of music is started (game freezes for about half a second). I am using CD images of these CD32 titles.
I tried to increase sound buffer from 4 to 7 but that only helped a bit, however sound stuttering (although noticeably reduced) remains. What else can I do? |

The latest version is 1.4.4. Always try the latest version before complaining about bugs!

Well, actually, I am waiting for 1.4.5 final because of Snoopy CDTV. By the way, do you know for certain that my problem is solved in 1.4.4. version or are you just being clever?

I had some sound issues with my previous use of WinUAE but I am more than happy to accept that this was due to my lack of decent knowledge on how to use all WinUAE's configuration options.
However, since downloading the latest version, restarting ALL my configs, I have noticed sounds seems perfect with a sound buffer of 3 and no JIT. Also, CPU usage is much lower and FPS is at a fairly constant 50. |

CD image or real CD? (you said CD image but this slowdown seems to point in cd drive start up delay)
CD32 emulation isn't fully threaded (data transfer is but cd audio isn't) NOTE: this has nothing to do with sound settings! Anything that stops the emulation for more than 0.2 seconds or so causes sound issues (Quite difficult to generate new sound data if program generating the data is not running..) |

I have CD images mounted in Daemon Tools 4.08. My OS is Vista, but it works perfectly for everything else plus other 99 per cent of CD32 titles work perfectly. So, I hope this information is helpful. Perhaps I should change some other options in configuration... for these, I am using CD32 quickstart config.

Mine is usually set to Above Normal, because I have lots of stuff running simultaneously and WinUAE needs more than standard task priority if it wants to "compete" in my case. Last edited by andreas; 13 November 2007 at 23:51. |
