Using the Pi as a serial to lan converter is nothing new but i wanted to make one completely automated and here it is, its more or less finished..i may add a status LED but especially its finished.

The C64 only needs 9600 baud or less but i will also try it on the Amiga and other computers later. Networking is such a pain on old systems - i want an easy solution...

not sure if i can rig it up to a PET but i'll have a go.

Excellent , I've also added an RS232 tll adaptor like that but it doesn't seen to receive at all. I need to look in to this more ...

Ideally I want to find a MAX3232 that has hardware handshaking. I think it will reduce CPU usage and stop the occasional 0 CPS I am seeing in large downloads.

my plan is to refine the PiServe so it works on all my 8bit and 16 bit systems.

time will tell, i may fit an LCD too and case it all up and if people are invested i may build a few.

How do you physically connect the C64 and the Pi in this case? I fail to see an adapter.

The Pi is connected to a 9600 baud User port adapter (serial 9 pin) and to USB on the Pi, but a hand wired user port RS232 can give from 2400 to 9600 baud also.

for a bbs 2400 baud is fine and is what modems of the era used anyway.

The PI2 can handle 115200 easily. 230400 is possible if you tweak the boot.txt (I didn't try any faster).

There are plenty of turnkey rs232 56k modems available, why would you want a raspi in between?

I have something similar in my 4k, a hardkernel board connected by ethernet to the 4000.

The board bridges the Amiga's connections to Wlan/external-Ethernet exports a NFS mount and provides RSH.

With a bit of code this gives that you can issue commands to it straight from Amiga shell with a shared filesystem and for connecting to modern services just mount them inside the NFS root which is how i connect to SMB/SSHFS/etc.

Another fun one is 'edit' locally and cross compile on the ARM, while invoking from Amiga shell.
