@Lord Vader
the LUCAS project provides an 020 PGA and 68881 fpu for an A1000 / A500 socket, the project is based around 4 PAL's ( 3x PAL16R4B & 1x PAL16L8 ) and 4 74x logic chips ( 3x 74F74 and 1x 74F04)also the obligatory handful of caps / resistors there is provision to run the 020 async upto 20mhz and have a separate OSc. for the FPU ie. 33/40mhz. there is no provision for a memory add-on other than in the form of a pin array that the basic schematic has, so with a little timing math and a lot of luck it should be possible to add a simple memory controller. i have attached both the Frances and LUCAS projects Last edited by Zetr0; 10 April 2010 at 19:53. |

@Alexh
I have to admit Jens got the right idea there!!! it shouldn't be too difficult to implement screw holes into the design, i think just getting the design up and running would be a bonus at this stage.... personally i think one should be able to make an 020@20mhz + 8mb ram upgrade for under $20. and with a little mass production this would drop much lower. the A600 design would be easily reworked for for an A500, arguably slap on an IDE interface and whoop... |

The only alternative is to superglue the accelerator/ram card to the 68k which isnt nice.

HOT GLUE
naa thats pretty nasty in its own right... I was thinking of using the HD mounting holes but in a subtly different way, by using a small plastic mount into the hole and the a screw from the top face of the card into the mount for a secure fit. |

If there are no moving parts, I don't see why you can't simply cut out a block of isolating material and glue that to the lid of the A600. Will keep the board from popping out of the socket very well, as long as it's firm enough and isn't extremely heat sensitive.
Only Intel type CPUs get super hot, so shouldn't be a problem. Drilling holes in PCBs... superglue... ugh :P You can make the internal height of the block required by putting objects of varying height (whatever, playing cards :P) until it fits nicely, then measure the height of whatever you put on there. |

@lvd
indeed an epm7128 would reduce the foot print of the board and obviously only having to program one chip as opposed to 4 is definitely a bonus!. I haven't checked but i believe there are tight propagation delays on the LUCAS project i think the emp7x series should be okay thought. I have to admit that damn 7Mhz clock is a pain. I did have a look at feeding another clock but still one has to XOR at 0.7 (CDAC) so i think most designs plumb for async, However saying this i think the Frances project allows for a synchronous design at 16 / 20mhz (ish lol) i really need to sit down and absorb it all |

This is a great breakthrough.
I'm sure there would be a commercial market for a finished product (although limited). I would definately buy one. Keep up the good work! |

Right basically, Zetr0, make a small batch of these and sell one to me. That will get me back into using Amigas.
(I would also need a new A600) |
