Which version of WinUAE, which version of HDToolbox, why do you think you can only make 163MB partitions ? Why do you use a hardfile, what is wrong with hdd directories ?

You probably have a reason to prefer hardfiles but you don't have to use them. You can simply prepare a windows folder as your harddrive so that you can access the contents from windows too.

Why do you want to use HD-Toolbox? A hdf IS a Partition rather than a Whole Harddisk.

*) Create an Hardfile for each Partition you want to make( FastFileSystem seems to be unable to support more than 1000MB ).
*) Load up the Workbench and you will see the Partitions - now simply format them.

an hdf isn't a partition - it's a drive as far as the Amiga is concerned. I have a single 7.5 Gig hdf partitioned into 5 partitions on the Amiga side (with SFS - not FFS).

As for why only 163Mb is showing in HDToolBox - sorry - can't help there.

In fact - I haven't been use at all, have I. Dunno why I bothered :/

I know for sure you cant install a Filesystem onto a hdf because the RDB aint there (first section of a HD), so I assumed UAE thinks of HDF`s as Partitions - sorry if I assumed wrong and theres some other Magic involved.
The Procedure I posted still does work however - without ANY Partitioning.

hdf can be partition or full drive image since WinUAE 0.8.22R1 (surfaces = sectors = reserved = 0 -> RDB-mode)

Ok, lets say i will install another OS in WinUAE .. like.. Linux or similar.. i guess i have to do partition's in a good Harddrive program to make.. the right partitons... on some site's i have read about to make.. Linux or Unix partition in HDToolBox.. and whats why im asking how to MAKE partitions bigger whan just 163Mb each....

That's the information I wanted to know.

So you made a mistake when configurating the HDD. In HDToolbox you first have to go to "Change drive type", then "Define new" and then "Read configuration".

The on the right side there is a line reading "Size: 532304k (519 meg)". This is the size which you can partition. If it is smaller, change the values to match the HDF size.

BTW, the values it chooses automatically (272 blocks per cylinder) are seldom stupid. I suggest to change this to 1040 cylinders, 8 heads and 128 blocks per tracks (this makes 1024 blocks per cylinder).

If you now go back to "partition drive" you should find two partitions of 259 meg each.

However, there is no other OS which installs successfully on WinUAE than AmigaOS. Linux needs a MMU which is not emulated.
