Fast serial port cards and TCP/IP (those PPP whatever)

Hi,
im wondering if those fast port cards (IOBlix, Multiface,..) can be used like network cards.
They are pretty cheap these days and nobody wants it

Maybe they are pretty fast compared to standard serial port (sometimes up to 460000bps?), so it will be really enough for email readings and irc chatting

Anyone tried that?
XSurf looks really nice, but expensive solution.

Please just constructive comments, thx

You can try of course, but do you have something in the other end that can also talk at those fast rates?

Even 115200 is plenty fast for IRC and email.

Sure. If you can really get 460000bps that is plenty for IRC and email. Even the MFC3 at 115200 is fast enough for simple text transfers. Of course, you can use the fast parallel also with PLIP, etc.
